God Bless America and the troops that made this happen! I can only imagine how President Bush is feeling right now. I am sure all of the families from the 9/11 attack are very happy right now.
A week ago? I am just getting the news now. Was he killed on Easter Sunday? Anyone know if he was alone, the only one of his party killed. This thing was responsible for all the 9/11 loss of lives and injuries, that kind of devestation warrants a Thank you God!
I don't know when he was killed, but it doesn't matter. He's dead.Thank God is right.
I agree Dave, with the date!!!! May god rest everyones soul that lost their lives to this terrible disgusting person, I cant even call him a man!!!!! They an finally rest!!
Yahoo! The best news yet. Good for Pres. Obama, finally got some justice for his hard workl That scum-bag is finally gone. But, his followers are still out there and will haunt us. This is going be a great day in history and we should mark it in our calendars for life. Make it a national holiday! Amazing to see the people out and about when they heard the news. To think that scum lived in a multi-million home. How disgusting. So glad they dumped him in the sea. So proud of the soldiers and America!
Oh HAPPY DAY! So many thoughts this morning- one for the families of 9/11, one for my cousin who lost her 2 best friends out of Logan that morning, one on one flight into the North Tower, one on the other, that an ever-opening, festering wound can now really heal, and that we won't go through another anniversary with that SOB still alive somewhere....
I feel quite alone this morning because, unlike my fellow Americans, I feel neither joy nor relief. I am joyless because I abhor war with every fiber of my being (the killing, the maiming, the permanent disruption to human life for those who are considered "collateral"). I feel no relief because I believe OBL was no longer the driving force behind Al quada. Al qaeda has become a movement. And just like the murder of Martin Luther King Jr. didn't stop the civil rights movement, so too will OBL's death not stop the terrorist movement. It may even inflame it.
This is our new reality and we must learn to live with it. An important footnote to this man's demise: it has cost us over 1 trillion dollars to effect his death. What could we have done with that money instead?
I HEARD THAT HE WAS KILLED LAST WEEK AND THAT OUR MILITARY TOOK HIS BODY TO DO DNA TESTS. I ALSO HEARD THAT HE WAS IN A COMPOUND WITH HIS WIFE, WIFES, ETC AND THAT THE PAKISTANIS KNEW HE WAS THERE AND DIDNT BOTHER TO TELL US. AND THAT WE ASKED IF HE WANTED TO SURRENDER AND HE SAID NO SO THEY SHOT HIM IN THE HEAD. KILLING IS NOT RIGHT, WHAT HE DID TO OUR PEOPLE WAS WAR AND WE HAVE FINALLY OBTAINED JUSTICE. I AM GLAD THAT WE DIDNT BRING HIM OUT BUT SHOT HIM ON THE SPOT. WE DIDNT LET HIM HAVE A CHANCE TO ESCAPE.
Reports say this photo is an altered version of a famous photo of Bin Laden -- no official death photos have been released, and it was reported due to the wounds, he is unrecognizable.
This doesn't need to be added as a comment, I just wanted you to know...
Dave- Know you are one busy bee this AM but asap, pic of Bin Laden's a fake- per Reuters. Pretty good Photoshop job, but there it is... Can't wait for what all you've got to say about this AMs brief hearing!
Oh, I think most of us wish very much that he was taken care of at Tora Bora, but getting him was absolutely necessary and was never, NEVER a doubt in my mind. Only question was if he died of natural causes first. Expensive, yes, on many, many levels, but what cost if we hadn't gotten him? We can/do/will get things done we set about to do if we maintain some resolve and we identify clearly our objectives. Now, what else can we do, what other problems can we tackle, what obstacles can we get around or over?
Do want y'all want, Rusty, that's fine, and I say that with respect- but I'm celebrating today without reservation- celebrating my cousin who lost friends, my fellow alumnae who perished that awful day, all the survivors who made it down those endless stairs, and all the relatives that have dealt bravely with their grief, the good souls Over There and the brilliant minds working this Big Thing out, so it went like clockwork and we lost no one else last night.
Before I went to bed last night, we heard the news. What a happy day this was for so many who lost someone on 9/11. Will it bring their loved ones back, of course not but they will now know that evil man is rotting in hell where I pray he has to be.
What a happy day May 1, 2011 will always be for so many. Thanks Dave for putting this on your blog.
I celebrate with reservation. Killing and dying is never something that makes me joyful. Right now I am angry that Pakistan had to have know where he was all the while. To have been housed in a very elite area. Two military bases in the same area. It is not new that I don't trust Pakistan. What have they ever done to show that they are our friend and can be trusted. Surely some who were caring for him need to be brought to justice also. My joy is for those who lost family and loved friends on 9/11. This will never replace their lives but at least gives some relief that the evil man who ordered the attack is dead. The fact that millions will follow the madness of ONE man for his EVIL cause is beyond comprehension and there is always another to take his place and people will follow. How many virgins will OBL have now. Maybe none since he did not blow himself up, the chicken!
According to my reading of the articles, OBL was killed early Monday AM Pakistan time - 1 AM Monday in Pakistan is 4 PM Sunday in Orlando / Washington. So OBL being reported as killed on Monday would jive with the operation taking place this weekend - our time. Our president would wait until the operation was over, the death was confirmed and all our operatives were out of harms way before reporting the news - 10 PM or so Sunday night in Washington (Monday in Pakistan).
I am not celebrating his death either. However, I can see where it can be considered a necessity to American security that he be killed and buried such that his grave could not be worshipped. I can also understand the "Justice Done" thoughts since he was the cause of the death of so many innocent Americans.
Basically, not sorry OBL is dead, but not dancing in the street either.
What I learned today was that the entire operation took 40 minutes and bin Laden died at 3:55 pm EST. He was engaging US soldiers, so even if we wanted to take him alive, he refused to lay down his arms. He was given that ultimatum, from what I heard. I believe his death is a symbol of America's resolve.
They have been coming after us since 2001 so it really isn't going to change that. Yes, they will want to retaliate, but we needed to get him for all that he has done to us. The families from 9/11 needed this. I can say that I am happy that he is dead, but I am not out celebrating on the street. Each person has their own feelings and perception on this whole thing and we all react differently.
New Puppy, I agree with you about Pakistan. There is no way that they did not know he was living there. His mansion was 8 times bigger than any of the other houses around that area. He had 12-16 foot concrete walls with wire on top and he was only 100 yards from the military base. They have a lot of questions to answer and I can see why they were not told a head of time that this was happening.
I was up all last night listening to this and watching it. I'm not one to feel good about someone's death, but I do feel relief. There are still many questions to be answered. Today they said DNA proved it was him, so that question is over in my mind. It also said he was with his youngest wife and she put herself in front of him as a shield and was killed. I think Obama showed more courage than any recent presidents in going in on just the thought he COULD be the one in that complex. It was a risk and he took it. What amazed me was that he picked the right people to keep it secret because nothing leaked at all. I'm with the group that thinks if he had informed the Pakistani government bin Laden would have been in the wind again.
As for the death of Osama bin Laden I think we should all consider the lives lost due to this one man. We should all take a moment to send a silent prayer to the higher power we believe in that this man who caused death to so many innocent men, women and children is where he should be.
Just one letter different in their names .. it's fitting that Osama should have been taken down by Obama.
Why thank you ecossie ! His name is always beside his picture so I never really looked.. my mistake.. but I like my spelling better lol... Thank you again.
ecossie, I watched 4 or 5 different stations today and there was only one of all of them that had it spelled correctly like you said. I always thought it was Osama, but found out today it was Usama.

I agree, it's a good thing he's gone but the cost? Also, pay backs are a B$#$#$# and a big ones comin.

logged back in to correct the last post of mine. I went to the News web sites and that's where I got the spelling from. It's Osama on those.
ecossie, I watched 4 or 5 different stations today and there was only one of all of them that had it spelled correctly like you said. I always thought it was Osama, but found out today it was Usama.
May 1 should definately be a national holiday..Hitler and Bin Laden both died May 1. The world is now a safer place to live without them.
