    Another One Bites The Dust

"With regret, I am forced to resign as George and Cindy Anthony's attorney. The defense motion filed on Aug. 9, 2010, contains allegations that are not, in fact, true. As an officer of the court, I cannot stand idly by knowing allegations involving me have been misstated. I am now a witness to an inaccurate legal pleading filed in our court system. As such, I cannot continue in good conscience as a legal representative. George and Cindy Anthony have done nothing improper, it is the failure of the defense to verify the facts alleged in their motion that forces my withdrawal. I will continue to support the Anthonys, will continue to attend hearings and the eventual trial, and most importantly, I will continue to search for the full truth regarding the killing of Caylee Marie Anthony."

    - Brad Conway wrote in his  letter of resignation

George and Cindy Anthony's attorney, Brad Conway, will no longer represent them. The move is a result of a motion filed by Jose Baez & Company in the never ending dispute with Texas EquuSearch.

First reported on the WESH-TV Web site, Conway appeared on the NBC Today Show to make his announcement. Regrettably, he said, he had to withdraw as the attorney for Casey's parents. On the network program, he claimed that the defense made false claims and he denied that he was granted full access to TES files. There were several misrepresentations, he added. He said he was given the same treatment as Baez and Cheney Mason regarding the roughly 4,000 pages of documents from TES volunteer searchers. Now, he feels he may be called as a witness for the defense

Brad Conway has been a good friend and trusted counsel to George and Cindy. I've had several talks with him and he's an all-around good guy. I understand the defense fighting for their client, but this is one more glitch in the case. This team of attorneys has taken out one of the best judges in the Ninth Circuit Court, and now, Brad Conway. Believe me, I know precisely how they sting.

There is much bad blood between the defense and Mark Nejame. To try to put things in some sort of perspective, New York City is big enough to handle lots of high-powered attorneys. Orlando is not. While Jose Baez is way out of their league, Cheney Mason and Mark NeJame are, next to John Morgan, two of the most powerful attorneys in this citified town we call Orlando. I am beginning to think there isn't enough room for both of them, and neither one is going to budge. Shades of Tombstone, this one may turn out to be a verbal gunfight in the courtroom. Call it the O'Casey Corral. Unfortunately, Brad Conway just got caught in the crossfire, and the bullets haven't even begun to fly yet. Who's next?

This is a great post Dave. I have to say that I am suprised about this. When I first started reading your article I thought he was resigning because of the Anthony's going on The Today Show, but that isn't why at all. I wonder who will be the next person that the defense team takes down? I wonder what George and Cindy think about Baez now? With this case you never know what is going to happen next.

    August 16, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMary Jo

Thank you, Mary Jo. I don't believe Brad wanted to quit at all. It became a conflict of interest because of what the defense wrote in the motion. He will be a defense witness. This defense hasn't hit the bottom yet. How deep low will it go?

    August 16, 2010 | Registered CommenterDave Knechel

Let's see if I can successfully post here. lol.

I think it's about time for Judge Perry to reign in Baez and company where TES is concerned. They have guidelines that were put into place by Strickland and Perry has not veered much from those guidelines, but Baez and crew just seem to want to push the boundaries and push them. Other lawyers have their own clients and arrangements had to have been made on both sides, not just the defense's.. all they need to do is follow the guidelines set forth by Strickland and Perry!

The one thing that has come out lately with the boring Anthony interview and this resignation is the lack of faith in Baez by the family. It's Casey's choice.. she is an adult, but then Casey's choices so far have been extremely flawed. I can understand Baez not wanting her talking on recorded conversations.. she buries herself with her own arrogance and anger.

It's just a shame to lose one more good man.

    August 16, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterconniefl

I can only hope that Judge Perry will finally put a stop to Baez and his endless series of fundamentally flawed motions. How many more people is he going to be allowed to slander before the judge slams the gavel down on him. This has got to stop!!!!!!!

    August 16, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterterri

Site is wonderful. Now it is time to get serious..I hope Baez get a reprimand.

    Good Morning All,
    WOW ... Never expected that!

Dave, do you think this could be an excuse for Brad Conway?

Legally speaking, did he HAVE TO STOP REPRESENTING CINDY AND GEORGE?

    Thank you for the post!

I thought Brad Conway would have left on his own long before this.

    August 16, 2010 | Unregistered Commentersnoopysleuth

Who do you think will be the Anthony's next lawyer and will they do it for free?

    August 16, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMary Jo

Dave, now my comments have to be approved by you each time I make one. This may get confusing if you are not around.

    August 16, 2010 | Unregistered Commentersnoopysleuth

    Dave,
This post is a great one!! This story has more twists and turns than a tilt-a-whirl!! The interviews with the Ants are so simple minded! I want to see someone interview them that is up to date on the facts of the case! Not one interviewer has had the guts to ask straight out questions. I feel bad for the Ants for the fact that they lost their beloved Caylee, BUT, lying at every turn will NOT bring her back. Not will it change the facts in the case.

Every time Cindy claims that Casey was a wonderful mother it is nauseating. How many times did she threaten to go to court and get custody of Caylee?? Ya think??

And it is amazing how they can continue to state that they believe that she is innocent!

One thing that I have been wondering about......all of the letters that were sent to Casey, from all types of people, including those from her parents, has Casey been given access to read them? Or are they opened by the jail and given to the prosecution or the defense??

Oh Well, this was a great read for a Monday morning! Keep up the good works and words!

    August 16, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterCarole

Good morning all------Dave, good post. Yes, bullets are only beginning to fly. Cant wait for the trial. Hope it is televised on court TV so that we can see all their faces as the Anthonys continue their lieing for Casey. I could only watch about 10 minutes of their nauseating interview on ABC. What is with those interviewers, they NEVER ask ANY pertinent questions like for instance, was it hard to clean up that car knowing that your granddaughter died in it?--did you have a big load of laundry to sterilize out of the car. did you throw that baby doll in with the "Pizza stained " pants too?--- If you think Caylee is alive why arent you looking for her. Sorry we are "mean" to you as I know that you want to get that Foundation of yours going and "do some good".

    August 16, 2010 | Unregistered Commentermartha

When I heard that Brad Conway was going to appear on the Today Show I thought, Uh-Oh!, he must have to do some damage control! Then I heard him say he resigned from being the Anthonys' attorney. All because of Baez' motion which implicates him in it as being able to see all of the TES documents (this motion makes the defense look like big ol' crybabies). I really think this is a blessing in disguise. I wonder who will dare to take on the Anthonys now...?

    August 16, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterSherry

I always wondered why Mark NeJame gave Brad Condway access to those TES files. It seemed quite unethical. Brad was representing Cindy and George, not Casey who is the one charged with murder one.

    August 16, 2010 | Unregistered Commentersnoopysleuth

    Dave,

wouldnt the issue with TES be a moot point? Cheney has already claimed/agreed that the searchers did not look at the exact location of where the body would eventually be found so i would think TES is a non-issue?? I think there is a more underlying problem (IMO)

    August 16, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterB-Man

Well, it looks like you are all moved in Dave, very nice place.

    August 16, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterPeggy

My comment to this latest news was entered at the "other" site...Don't want to be redundant but I agree that he didn't have to quit...I quess he couldn't take the heat...At least NOW the court might realize the contraversial defense team is going overboard...One thing for sure, Team Casey hasn't read the book "How to Win Friends and Influence People"...

    August 16, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterEstee

Hi Dave and everyone. So Conway is not only telling us he resigned but also that Baez is again lying. I mean "misrepresented" and lying are the same thing. Was Baez always this way inclined or did his ethical decline only start once Mason came on board? I can understand he is a defence attorney, but surely it would still be unethical to misrepresent the truth.

    August 16, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterPepper

I am very sorry that Brad Conway felt that he had to quit but I can certainly understand why anyone would want to achieve distance from false legal pleadings even when the pleadings were made by someone else. I think that Brad Conway would certainly know whether or not he was given full access to the Texas Equisearch Records and that if he says he was not, his word on the matter is good. Why would Casey's team say something about the treatrment of another lawyer if they knew it was false and they would get caught? Isn't there a penalty for making false statements in pleadings? Aren't they embarrassed to have said something which is denied by the lawyer involved? I just don't understand.

August 16, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAmber from Maryland

I find it interesting in Brad's resignation letter that he states the following... I will continue to search for the full truth regarding the killing of Caylee Marie Anthony." He is calling Caylee's death a killing, but his clients still think she is alive.

    August 16, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterMary Jo

To be honest I think Brad Conway has the patience of a saint to be the Anthony's attorney in the first place. To sit next to them, especially Cindy, at the civil hearing for ZG and not want to smack them he is very mellow.

    August 16, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterPeggy

Dave I'm not sure if the comment I'm about to make fits in here. I noticed on your wordpress blog that Peggy222 and Dadgum watched the Cindy interviews last night. I did too. Peggy's description is so apt for Cindy - she speaks non-stop without even taking the time to breathe - by tape 4 I thought she'd start turning blue in the face, but alas she didn't. Two things really stood out though, the first is that she's prepared to lay the blame on Amy and Ricardo based on non existent evidence but at the same time cannot see that Casey might be to blame despite the overwhelming evidence and lies. Second, is that it must surely be the height of stupidity that Cindy fell for Casey's lies hook, line and sinker and thought that she was been given clues to solve. Hence spending days and nights working on the riddles. I'm sorry but Cindy has a serious problem.

Dave: Wow! Your site looks great! Also, it seems to be working so much better--really smooth and fast.

I really enjoyed reading your new post. I always felt Brad seemed too ethical to be involved with the Anthonys. Even though I think he is better free of them, I'm sorry for any hardship he may endure because of his involvement with viewing the Tes documents.

If I'm remembering correctly, Mr. Nejame only offered to show them to Brad as a courtesey to the Anthony family. I'm wondering if this means because Cindy asked Mr. Nejame to do this.

Anyway, now I'll see if I can post this correctly.

MJ, the next lawyer for the Anthony's better have cast iron nerves to deal with Cindy. I doubt they will find anyone as nice as Brad Conway.

You should change your name to MJ over here, I bet it will work.

Casey Anthony will never grasp nor acknowledge how her actions have effected so many good people. Kudos to Brad Conway for his professionalism to date and pray he continues to be able to hold his head high.

Thanks Nan11. I went over and watched it. While I don't want anything to jeapardise the trial at this point I sure do wish that someone would expose Baez for the low life he is.

Hi, All! Have been off-line all weekend and just getting back, checking things out. Dave, this looks better and better- much improved from the other day. As to Mr. Conway- like Snoopy I wonder why it's taken so long! Who does he seem to have the stronger bond with, I wonder- George or Cindy? They could not have been easy clients to have, but he does make it clear- Jose is a liar and this fact (on top of all the other indications we've had) could really throw a spanner in the works...

uhoh.. Just noticed with nan11's post links don't work inside the post! And since there is no copy/paste y'all keep a pen and paper handy when you want to go to a link lol.

You mentioned Cheney Mason and NeJame were considered 2 of the most powerful attorneys in Orlando. I certainly hope Mason improves by the time court starts because he's not looking too good right now. Maybe it's Baez making the mistakes... yes, he needs to get DP qualified, but it shouldn't be as first seat on such a high profile case. It seems like the Anthonys first mentioned doubt in his abilities on tv, attorneys drop out of the case and all that's left is Baez and Mason. Leaves ya wondering "who's next?" It also left me wondering if by the Anthonys and Conway expressing doubt they are using the media to start a "lawyer is inadequate" frame of mind for a future appeal.

I hope Judge Perry ends all this. I feel Conway is very upset that Biez lied and didn't even call and get the true facts. Now he is between a rock and a hard place but has chose to tell the truth. I feel maybe Conway was looking for a way out and this is it.
