Thanks for posting those vids ...In the first one the sign written in the background refers to James Hannratty a cause celibere in 1960 s Britian He kidapped a couple at gunpoint on the A 6 road forced them to drive to a quite lay by .He then shot an murdered the man an then raped the woman. He then shot her an left her for dead. She survived but as paralised for life.It was a massive case in the uk as gun crime was practicaly unheard of /Particulary a sensless nasty assault an rape. After a massive man hunt evidence mostly circumstancial led to Hannratty. He protested his innocence but was convicted an sentanced to death. Many celebrites took up his case an proclaimed that he was innocent .Includeing the Beatles an Rolling Stones. He was hanged in pentanville prison still maintaining his innocence. His family an decendants campaigned continually to have him given a posthumas pardon.Evidence from the rape and murder had been preseved .Eventually with the advent oof D N A /The athourites agreed to reopen the case. His body was exhumed an D N A collected from his bones. It was compared to the samples of seamen collected of the rape an shooting victim. It was a match.. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-35427/DNA-tests-Hanratty-guilty.html

I noticed the Hanratty sign, and being unfamiliar with the name, I looked it up. Your explanation makes more sense than anything I read about it tonight. Thank you, ecossie possie. I had no idea. Sometimes, people go for causes that others disagree with. I would imagine, if Casey is convicted, that down the road, people will protest about her, too.

    ecossie,
I remember hearing about that case many years ago. I had forgotten about it till you posted about it. I did not remember how it turned out so I was holding my breath till I got to the last line of your account. Thank you for this very interesting recap of a very interesting case.

    Oh, yes, Dave,
must thank yo for your Beatles vids! Their song "GIve Peace a Chance" is a message that will always be relative, but not given enough attention. I am sure you are listening to your favorite Beatles music tonight, and I am listening to Eric Clapton's "In my Father's Eyes".

I wonder what wonderous music the world missed out on with Lennon's death.....

I often wonder if because we like the product that comes from some celebrities that it leads us to idoltry when we really do not know them. For instance after years, i still love the vocals of Elvis Presley and some of the Beatles music and songs, Let It Be, mcArthurs Park etc. Celebrities are th accepted and have opportunity to make their cause public and some can become followers because we come to enjoy their talents. We as everyday people have a cause, no one will listen because we are not celebrity At the moment I am taken by admiration of Elizabeth Edwards, as a woman she exemplifies all that I would like to be in character because I see how she gained through her very difficult time by being able to forgive sustained by faith and love. So while John Lennon left his mark on many, so does Elizabeth Edwards. two entirely different people with different purpose in life. If you don't understand what I am saying here, blame it on one joint and Dave's music.

Good evening Dave, I was hoping you would put something up today for John. That was a very sad day when this incredibly talented man was murdered. The video was amazing, I have never seen it and if I had, I do not remember it. I wonder what he would be doing today if he had lived? I would like to think that he would still be "marching" for peace and perhaps still recording. Thanks for reminding us once again what am amazing man he truly was.

An amazing woman passed away yesterday, Elizabeth Edwards. She was my friend. Elizabeth, John and their children were in my home and I will always remember her very fondly.

Its hard to IMAGINE that John Lenon would be in his seventys if he had not been murdered.A few days before his death he gave an interveiw to rolling stone magazine saying he didnt want to become a dead icon like James Dean....

Emm New Puppy hiya but Mcarthurs park is not a Beatles song...............I think it was the Small Faces recorded that ....

    December 8, 2010 | Registered Commenterecossie possie

Sorry New Puppy Mcarthur Park was Donna Summer.....Itchy Coo Park was Small Faces am getting my parks mixed up...

    December 8, 2010 | Registered Commenterecossie possie

McArthur Park was recorded by Richard Harris. This was the version that ran over 7 minutes. Donna Summer also recorded it, although as a total fan of this song it was the version sung by Richard Harris that is the best of the best.
The first time I heard it was in 1970 and I went into a record store and had to sing part of it to find out what the name of it was......wound up buying 3 copies on 45rpm records and wore them out quickly!

I just knew Dave wouldn't let this day pass w/o a little Lennon to brighten things up! I know Ecossie's in bed now but I wonder if he's read Dr. Keith Simpson's book (the ME who worked on the Hanratty case- and SO MANY others). That's where I had first read about it. Yeah, the late 60s and 70s were pretty much all about All Authority is Corrupt and Wrong, and just plain Mean- and a lot of otherwise smart folks took up various causes and many made real fools of themselves doing it. Lennon, too, sometimes I'm afraid, and I just loved the guy! 30 years, God Almighty...

OK, I give, How did I connect McArthurs park with the Beatles. lol All I remember was that my friend Tony came up to me and said "Paul McCartney is Dead"! I mean, I fell apart and could never figure. Why he did that? Does anyone remember any such news. All those songs were at the same time. I gotta think it out, check my records, You sure you're not foolin with me ecossie possile? I'm the kind that believes anything I'm told. lol Well it was a wonderful period in time for me.

Dave--Thanks so much for reminding me of all the things John Lennon tried to stand for. It brought a tear to my eye--somehow, I had forgotten.

Elizabeth Edwards was a great lady, so much class and goodness. I hope John Edwards finally realizes what a truly special person he has lost. God bless her children and loved ones.

Elizabeth Edwards was a very courageous woman. Too bad her husband turned out to be such a cad.

    December 9, 2010 | Registered CommenterDave Knechel

Good morning Dave and everyone. Yes, John was a cad, I would have used a worse name for that man. But Elizabeth was someone I will only remember as an amazing woman.

Dave, are you planning on going to the hearing today?

    December 10, 2010 | Registered CommenterPeggy222

Good morning, Peggy - Yup, John Edwards is worse than a cad, but I won't repeat it here on the blog. I can't believe he actually thought he was worthy of the presidency. That's just sick.

I am going to try to make it to the hearing. I need to write about it and the only way I can do that is to attend.

"Hey Jude," was played so often back then that I have trouble hearing it today. An upstairs renter played it continualy until we signed a paper actually begging him to stop or by head phones.

    E. Edward was the power and intelligence behind the man. A classy lady.

Hey Jude was the number one song for over a year. It leads me back to 1968 and visiting my brother at Ft. Dix on Sunday afternoons. That's where he had basic training.

Thank you, Helen. I'll try to write about today's hearing when I return, unless I am too tired. Then, it will be first thing tomorrow morning.
