    Dreaded White Screen

Lately, I’ve been checking out - what I hope will be - non-invasive ads. This is merely to offset the cost of the blog. Last night, I had some noisy ones, including that persistent “YOU WON” recording that wins you nothing but an earache.

Minutes ago, I removed the last traces of the ad company I feel was responsible for the white page mess that kept popping up, filling your screen and not letting you escape without answering some sort of dumb survey. It was a royal pain in the butt, but I got it, too.

As far as I know, it’s history, but I will please ask you to tell me if you see it again. If you do, to rid yourself of it, just click on your left back (or return) arrow located in your browser.

I am truly sorry for the inconvenience, but I had no idea it was going to do it. The ad company told me yesterday that they were gone. They weren’t. Now, the ad company is.

I’m off to a doctor appointment. I hope things are back to normal now. If not, I do want to know about it. You can leave a comment or e-mail me by using the submission form near the bottom of the left sidebar.

    Thank you,

    Dave

    Back to writing later!

Ecossie came to my blog and said he could not get logged in here.

Ecossie... yohoooooo how did you make out? Give me a shout if you made it in okay?

I am not having any problems with ads now. Things look pretty good gaining access here.

    November 23, 2010 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

Sorry, Dave. I just got another pop-up ad (right now) when I clicked on the link to view comments for this entry. I managed to click off it, otherwise I would tell you what it was for.

So far so good for me, Dave. I didn't get any ads at all.

Well not to burst the bubble I still am having "issues" whats funny is when i post a comment and it "uploads" it acts like its uploading the dictionary which is odd and when it comes back the adds will start "flowing" again. Just before this post i received notice that Ke$ha was in town and ready to rock!! :~)

Dave, there weren't any ads and there also wasn't any kind of a virus or any such thing. I just wanted that to be known since there are some that like ot spread that rumor. Your site is clean and no one has to worry at all when they come here.

No problemo this evening...did have trouble with that dumb "survey" thingy earlier, but all seems OK now...Glad you got the bugs worked out...Enjoyed the Lizzie Borden post...I don't think she killed her parents...From what I've heard her dad was a SOB and there were numerous persons that rejoiced at his passing...I see no resemblence personality wise between Casey and Lizzie, but this trial certainly will be remembered for a long time...I don't envy anyone involved in this case, but I'm glad we have a seasoned State's Attorney in Mr. Ashton...He knows how to dot his I's and cross his t's...It is evident in the latest motion he filed...Looks like he didn't leave Team Casey with wiggle room...

I haven't been able to get on for a while now. Whole screen of ads come on and downloads ads for A LONG TIME. Cannot possibly withstand this. Sorry. It's me Tim, I will miss your site.

    November 23, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterTim

Dave, do you think using different browsers shows more ads? The only ones that pop up for me is the green underlined ones in the comments. I only use Internet Explorer and maybe I don't get as many because I am in Canada.

Tim, I hope things can be resolved so you can join us again. I was wondering where you disappeared to.

I took a lot of the ads out and the blog should run more smoothly. I'm experimenting and trying out different companies. I'm not going to end up with a bunch of trashy ads, but I've got to look at all my choices and what each one has to offer.

    November 23, 2010 | Registered CommenterDave Knechel

why is the site loading so slow??

    November 23, 2010 | Unregistered Commentermicmic

It should be getting faster. I took some of the ads out.

    November 23, 2010 | Registered CommenterDave Knechel

White screen back and went to a full page pop up for MOMSTER or something like that...I closed it out and your shining face/head greeted me...I won't desert you, but don't like the inconveniences...I'll just consider it a little rain before the sunshine...Hope you and your family have a Happy Turkey Day tomorrow...God Bless...

    It's all good, now, Dave.

    November 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterPace

I sure hope it's all good now, Pace. I never wanted that stupid white page to begin with. I was just experimenting. Estee, I'm sorry. Hopefully, it's gone now.

Read the your post last night, log on this am 11:17 est, received the survey again. Just to let you know. Thanks. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

    November 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterAnnie

Happy Thanksgiving, Annie. I don't know what's causing it, but I hope it goes away. I do know that the blog is loading faster again. I'll just keep plugging at it and see if I can figure it out.

    November 24, 2010 | Registered CommenterDave Knechel

Whew! Glad that's done. I was caught in an ever lasting loop of "this site is trying to open using your trusted site, do you want to allow?" over and over ad nauseum, until I had to task manage out of it.
    Thanks for the repair Dave.
O/T but do you have any thoughts regarding Jeff Ashtons latest motion regarding invoices and monies spent on and/or donated time by experts? I wonder if he's looking for a conflict, the experts attempts at publicity or personal gain.
Off to start the sous work for tomorrows dinner. There is a lot to be thankful for.
    Fond regards to all-
    K

Dave, not to be a stinker, especially the day before Turkey Day, but is it possible that one of your nemesis is responsible for what happens everytime some goes to your site? I would find it odd that only a few people are experiencing this problem so it leads me to believe that it may not be a sponsor issue...? IDK

    November 24, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterB-Man

I think , for the most part, it's over, Kara. I think one outfit was the culprit, but I also think I jammed too many ads into the site and that's what slowed it down. It wasn't the right approach. I'll stick with what I have for now. This one might open a new page, but t allows you to X it out. I shouldn't have tried to do things all at onece.

I still plan on writing something about that motion the state filed. It should lead to a very compelling hearing on Monday.

    November 24, 2010 | Registered CommenterDave Knechel

Hi, B-Man - No, I think it was my fault for trying to stuff too much into the blog, and I am almost sure it was one company in particular. At the same time, the babs are definitely spreading a bunch of lies by saying their computers died and got all sorts of malware, which just isn't true, They have no morals.

    November 24, 2010 | Registered CommenterDave Knechel

Dave~~things on my end getting in here are perfect. The pages are loading much faster now that some of the troublesome ads are gone.

To Ecossie... I hope you see you back here. You know the " if at first you don't suceed etc."

    November 24, 2010 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

Everything seems to be fine here on my end, too, Snoopy. I had too many graphic ads and that bogged it down.

I hope ecossie understood my e-mail. It was pretty simple.

    November 24, 2010 | Registered CommenterDave Knechel

I just got a full page ad saying I needed to upgrade my Adobe Flash Player. Wrongo! Its ads like these that one must be very careful not to click on and I mean don't even click on the "close' in the corner since that is how a virus sneaks in. Just close the whole window or reclick on Dave's site from your favorites, bookmarks, or home page tab. I've had no problems once I'm logged in. It is irritating with ads that flash but I beleive there is a way to stop that? I did at Blink's but can't remember what I did.

I sure hope you don't ban me Dave for my comment like TCD did-lol-but you know I'm not trying to dissuade people from coming to your site. I just want them to be careful about clicking on ads even if to close them. It happens at all the sites that allow ads. I know you are working on it, too.

One more note! Be careful of these ads promising money from the internet-scam!

Just came to your site at 7:25 PM MST Saturday, was greeted by "Congratulations you won" followed by a popup "Who's searching for you? Enter your info to see results instantly". All pages are VERY slow to load. Do you sstill want to know?

    November 27, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterKatharine

Yes, Katharine, I still want to know. I thought I took all of that code out, but I just replaced the code on 5 of the ads. Please let me know if it happens again. Thanks for telling me.

    November 27, 2010 | Registered CommenterDave Knechel

That was an AD?!!! I ran virus scan right after it happened and it logged it in twice as an auto exe program that continually restarts. Anyway. Glad you got it fixed. Now I have a bunch of reading to catch up on.
