Statement Regarding Attorney General's Compensation Fund From Family of Trayvon Martin and Their Attorneys

On February 26, 2012, Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by George Zimmerman. George Zimmerman immediately claimed that he killed Trayvon Martin in self-defense.  The Sanford Police Department and the Seminole County State Attorney’s Office did not arrest George Zimmerman for this homicide.  George Zimmerman was viewed by law enforcement and the public in general as the victim while Trayvon Martin, a 17 year old teen walking home from the store armed with nothing more than Arizona Ice Tea and Skittles, was portrayed as a criminal who assaulted George Zimmerman thereby causing his own death.

On March 29, 2012, in an effort to get the State of Florida to recognize her son as the true victim of this homicidal crime,  Sybrina Fulton, with the help of a concerned friend, filled out initial paperwork applying to the Florida Attorney General for victim’s compensation. At that time George Zimmerman still had not been arrested for this crime.  The Attorney General’s Compensation Fund provides money and support for victims of crimes committed in Florida. Ms. Fulton felt it was important for the State of Florida to recognize her son as the victim in this case in order for justice to be served and for George Zimmerman to be arrested.

In April, George Zimmerman was arrested and Trayvon Martin was officially recognized by the state of Florida as the victim of a crime committed by George Zimmerman.  Since that time, Sybrina Fulton, with her ex-husband, Tracy Martin, has concentrated her efforts on the Trayvon Martin Foundation and raising awareness on the need to stop senseless gun violence.  Sybrina Fulton has not yet completed the very time-consuming paperwork required by the state

As the attorneys for the Estate of Trayvon Martin, we have encouraged Ms. Fulton and Mr. Martin to complete the application for the funds.  These funds are collected from perpetrators of crimes as reparations to victims.  If eligible for the funds, the family of Trayvon Martin intends to donate the money to the Trayvon Martin Foundation in hopes of preventing other parents from suffering the pain they have had to feel due to senseless gun violence.

YouTube VIDEO | Published on Jun 27, 2012 by mOnanBatterload | Trayvon Martin on the phone @ 7-11 via wired headset mic.mp4
    VIDEO Description:
Martin's phone had a corded headset with a microphone extending out to the mouth. It was not a compact wireless or mic-less earpiece. It was clipped to his hoodie, along with an in-line controller. Martin can be seen operating the controller and donning the headset.

I had heard about this video, and tonight I came across it by accident. The video maker keeps playing the same clip over and over; so, eventually, I could hear Trayvon saying 'hello' quite clearly.

    It's sad, though.

I don't really know much about the 'headset with the microphone extending' business--but it's something to watch for, too.

It says the call was at 6:24 pm; but I noticed that it doesn't really appear to match up with Trayvon's phone records; but, I did read somewhere that someone said that the phone records could be as much as 30 minutes off--which would make it quite close to the incoming call showing at 6:45 pm.

So, if the 30 minutes difference is correct, (and someone said that they are with the same company and they know that their records are off that much), I find that 'jives' with Dee Dee's interview pretty good.

[The sound on my laptop doesn't work, but it does on my old one that I try not to turn on much. Plus I have the iPad. I will get to it in the morning. I am tired, but it's something I really want to scrutinize. Thank you for finding it. You have a real talent for finding incredible stuff, nan11.]

Wow. Mr. O'Mara is going to do the 'stand your ground' hearing:

George Zimmerman Legal Case | There Will Be A "Stand Your Ground" Hearing in the George Zimmerman Case
Quote: Preparing for the “Stand Your Ground” hearing will require the same time and resources that would be necessary to prepare for a trial. It will take time to collect and submit reciprocal discovery, depose witnesses and experts, and identify evidence to be submitted during the hearing. We anticipate this will still take several months. Mr. O’Mara, again, urges everyone to be patient during this process and to reserve judgment until the evidence is presented in the “Stand Your Ground” hearing.

[Bring it on! That's what I have to say. I'm surprised he made that decision prior to an announcement on what he plans to do about Judge Lester's court order to remain on the bench. Personally, I think this judge will be top shelf. He will rule according to the evidence and the law. Thanks for linking it so quickly. This is great news.]

Orlando Sentinel - More evidence released while George Zimmerman's attorney says "Stand Your Ground" hearing likely

This is something different, too. Yesterday, it was just discussed that O'Mara had filed the motion so that Zimmerman would not have to appear. But:

Quote: "Also released Wednesday was an order from Seminole Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester ordering Zimmerman to appear at a court hearing Oct. 3."

(I'm not seeing any new motions or orders posted on the 18th Circuit Court site, though.)

    And from the same article:
    Quote: "The evidence released includes:

•An audio statement to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement by "Witness 31."

•Emails from the Sanford Police Department.

•Zimmerman's records from Seminole State College.

•Photos taken by "Witness 13" of the back of Zimmerman's head and Trayvon on the ground.

•Zimmerman's application to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office civilian academy.

(It really is beginning to look as if the Zimmerman team is not going to appeal Judge Lester's decision to stay on the case. Ha, lol, the minute I enter this comment, Mr. O'Mara will probably file his motion.)

[I don't see anything about Lester ordering Zimmerman to appear, either, nan11, but I think we got spoiled by the Orange County court clerk's office. They were fairly quick to post things on their website. Seminole County? Not as fast. I do wonder why the judge would order him to attend, though. It's just a docket sounding.]

    Okay--now we have this:

From WFTV's Daralene Jones ‏on 'Twitter': According to a spokesperson with the State Attorney's Office--nothing that is being released today is being released to the public.

So, we will have to wait awhile.

[That's just the discovery stuff, then. It must be going to the defense and that means we won't see it for awhile.]

    August 9, 2012 | Registered Commenternan11

Dave: I'm sorry for all this confusion.

Revised: Yikes, now we are back to what Daralene said earlier. Apparently, it got released by mistake, and the powers that be are asking the media to hold off.

    They are complying.

Dave: It's me again. Maybe they are not complying.

    State's Sixth Supplemental Discovery

I don't know how long the link will work.

[Who's not complying, nan11? I'm not sure what you mean. I did manage to download the entire PDF and it opens. Of course, that's all so far. No audio file yet.]

[NEVER MIND... I DIDN'T SEE YOUR COMMENT ABOVE THIS ONE.]
