Who is going to take the plunge and give their analysis on the evidence that came out today??

Why did Zimmerman's defense release new evidence?

    June 21, 2012 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

I don't have an analysis on the evidence, but I do have some opinions. I am not as legally savvy as most of you in here, but these tapes and that video showed me that the Sanford police especially the investigator did more than the news media and Martin's people made it sound like.

The first thing I noticed was the video. It was taken before GZ knew who he had killed, and before any of the other officers had evidence or had gone over other witness statements . To me it was a self serving description of what happened. The areas he says he doesn't remember I got the feeling he did remember, he just left it out or glossed over it. I believe TM didn't say "you got me", but "you shot me" if he said anything. That would be the most logical since he was doing no wrong.

I just loved the last guy that interviewed GZ - the one who told him he had shot a kid... one with a future. I liked his telling Z that if someone were "up to no good" they'd most likely be dressed in all black, not a light gray hoodie, that it wasn't his job to detain the person, that neighborhood watch didn't give him that authority...and that if he hadn't gotten out of his truck it would never have happened. He kept the door open for charges in his statement while keeping Zimmerman calm and collected.

You know, that detective mentioned that TM liked to videotape himself doing things. I hope there was something on his cell phone that we haven't heard of yet.

Like I said, no synopsis or analysis, just my own observations and opinion. I hope the courts keep in the lesser charge of manslaughter so they won't be faced with the same thing they were in the CA trial.

When it comes to the media they have to keep you, the viewer, hooked and to some extent have some bias. Media is a necessary evil, think about when you're watching your evening news ever hear a story the starts like "these 5 items will KILL your child find out at 10 what they are"...see they bait you and that keeps you coming back for more so the story is never going to be complete even though they say they give "complete coverage".

I think as a majority LE more than adequately do their job, i know in the world of CSI you'd like to have every crime solved but in reality its more like Hill Street Blues and someones ass is hanging out...Everyone is entitled to mistakes and LE is one of those entities who are not aforded any lattitude.

Although I find Zimmerman's story believable he seems to grow a little gragariously confident eager to tell his story however a found it a little contrived like...not rehearsed but fitting, so to speak. If i killed someone and needed to deflect suspicion the story told does that to an extent...i felt his facts were matter of fact like he was insinuating that "they" were there or something as opposed to vague...Not a docotor or anything but generally when people are in the midst of a struggle the moment has a tendancy to muddle the mind so it would be expected that he wouldnt be so "matter of fact".

Regardless if he has some believablility him returning from the grocery store and seeing someone suspicious and feeling the need to pursue does not seem logical unless somehow Martin was threatening and, according to phone records, he was speaking with his girlfriend?

The other part I didn't like was the screaming for help...it seemed like a nice package or a way to gain sympathy?? I dont think it will be adequately proven one way or the other who was screaming as for a while I could've sworn experts excluded Zimmerman?

When I saw the reenactment, my first thought was this guy is smooth. Then I went back and watched the "apology" at the bond hearing and there he is with a well rehearsed apology all the while going along with the "hero" narrative among his supporters. This guy is a natural born salesman.

As to my take on the release of evidence? Brilliant move by the defense to counter the mountain of negative publicity. O'Mara knows that video will never see the inside of a courtroom but think of the donor fears that may have gotten quelled. He also likely tainted the jury pool a bit.

The detectives pretty much nail him in recoding 6 too.

    June 22, 2012 | Registered CommenterPorky3100

I imagine that the defense, knowing that the material would be released by the state very soon anyway, chose to release it during a news cycle when the Sandusky case is wrapping up and the AG is cited for contempt of Congress.

    June 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMollyK

Dave, just can't wait for your take on what GZ has to say. I watched the tape where he was at the place where this all took place and I don't for one minute believe that TM was slamming Z's head on the concrete. Was there blood evidence of that?
After listening to all the jail calls with Shellie I don't believe one word either of them say.

    June 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTommy's Mom

BMan I do genealogy so have been up to date on tricks the newspapers use and have used throughout the decades. I try to piece together my opinion by what I want to believe out of each article. I think most people do that.

I am not familiar with ADD and adderal. I thought he said he had memory problems.?? Something about he couldn't remember the address of the complex or something like that? He physically goes into and out of that address daily sometimes several times and can't remember it. But he remembered almost to the second what happened with TM. Sounds rehearsed to me. Like he got his story straight in his mind then went over and over it. It's human nature to protect yourself, and that's what he's doing in that video.

I liked the last investigator best because he brought up almost every question we had. Like the injuries to the back of his head, no defensive wounds on his body, very little on TM. The investigator said essentially if he had pounded his head into the pavement like he described he'd have a concussion.

Florida Sunshine Law still boggles my mind. I hadn't even gotten used to the prosecution releasing all kinds of information, and now the defense is doing it?!! Polluting the jury pool for sure on both sides.

    June 22, 2012 | Registered Commenterconniefl

    ConnieFL-

Couldn't agree more!! His statements seem to be so absolute when telling everything away from the limelight (like when he's being questioned his statements are not so rehearsed like you'd expect) but once with an investigator he's a little more possitive as we walks him through but as the day progresses more people show up and his story becomes grandeoso-contrived if you will.

Whether or not they can prove it was he who screamed to me is irrelevant (will its relevant to an extent) because its cancelled out. Zimmerman says it is he who was screaming. Witness's originally believing it was he have recanted and are either not sure or they say Martin was screaming. Earlier on experts analyzed the recording and it swayed in Martin's favor but in the end, because Martin is dead, the screams heard are irrelvent...IMO.

When people are surrounded by peers you have a feeling of importance which is what i see. The truth is subjective and because the only other witness to the crime is dead he's the only one who needs to gain the sympathy of the public. What if it turns out that those wounds were self inflicted? His head wounds are not abrassions like i'd expect to see when struggling on a sidewalk but are cuts...well the one i saw and i could be wrong. If anything the broken nose is legit but everything else is questionable.

    June 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBMan

I have a real problem with what GZ said regarding the moments before he shot TM. He states his head is being slammed and he is wriggling with Martin on top of him. Then it so happens that Martin "saw" his gun "his jacket raised (the gun being on GZ's right Hip). Martin then says something to him about him dying (cough cough) and GZ feels TM's hand crossing him in an attempt to get the gun. During all this GZ is able to stop him by clamping on TM's arm. reaching for his gun (managing to pull it from it's holster?) and shoots TM. So, TM is holding GZ down with one hand or arm? George saw TM seeing his gun (granted GZ corrected "saw:) And of course, TM told George he was going to die. Pa-leeeeease !

Zimmerman Prosecutors Struggle to Outmaneuver Florida Law

Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law is complicating matters for prosecutors rushing to convict George Zimmerman. The law is clear that residents can meet force with force when they feel threatened.

June 23, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Florida's Stand Your Ground law allows residents to use deadly force to defend themselves or their property, and when doing so, protects them from prosecution. This law may derail the prosecution of defendant George Zimmerman in the much-publicized case of a neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and killed teenager Trayvon Martin.

State prosecutors see the case as open-and-shut, arguing that Martin was simply a kid buying a soda at a convenience store. When Zimmerman called 911 to report a suspicious individual, police told him to stand down until they arrived; he did not.

While authorities note that the one possibly threatening detail about Trayvon Martin was a simple hooded sweatshirt, George Zimmerman claims that Martin physically attacked him.

Florida's Stand Your Ground law is clear: an individual has no duty to retreat from a public confrontation in which he or she reasonably perceives a danger. As the Miami Herald notes, Floridians are allowed to "meet force with force." In fact, Zimmerman was not initially arrested by police at all for this very reason.

And, the law receives strong support. A recent Quinnipiac University poll finds support for the state law at 56 percent, with only 35 percent opposed to it.

While he was eventually charged with second degree murder, state prosecutors have no easy task to explain why Stand Your Ground should not apply to George Zimmerman. In fact, anyone facing charges of murder or homicide in Florida should discuss their situation with an experienced criminal defense attorney who will hold the prosecution accountable for proving their case at every step and ensure the defendant's rights under state law are respected.

    Stand your ground law.

TM when followed, and then confronted by GZ had the right to defend himself. Since he was unarmed he used the only things available to him.. his fist and just maybe that can of tea.

It looks like the defense is trying to pick up the story where GZ finally catches up with TM and that's not right. The Stand your ground law doesn't apply to him in my opinion.

Could Trayvon Martin’s Cellphone be the Key to Solving the Zimmerman Case?

Tracy Martin told police during the missing person report that he saw Trayvon at 8:00 to 8:30pm on the night he was shot at 7:27pm

    June 24, 2012 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

I found GZ's statements amazingly consistent, something his lawyer says would mean he is lying. O'Mara also says they're not consistent. What does everyone else think?

I saw on another board that talk left has nicked one of Dave's photos of the walkway without giving credit. It's the one to the left of the tree near the T. My question is, in that write up and during GZ's reenactment this is where the shooting is supposed to have taken place but TM's body was nowhere near there. Who told you the shooting happened there, Dave?

    Thanks.

In the article Snoopy linked above, "Statements reveal George Zimmerman's mind-set before Trayvon Martin shooting" I notice that GZ says he noticed TM because TM was off the sidewalk in Frank Taffe's yard.

I call bull#$%! on GZ....if Trayvon was in Frank Taffe's yard when noticed him, GZ surely knew what street his buddy Frank lived on....he didn't need to get out of his truck! Maybe the state can check prior phone calls to the police to see if GZ knew the street name when he thwarted a burglary at FT's home in the weeks prior. I remember FT saying that GZ wasn't profiling TM, it was a rational conclusion that Trayvon was up to no good because GZ himself had caught a young black male trying to break in Frank's home. Sounds like profiling to me.

    June 24, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterkatfish

katfish, If GZ said that he first noticed Trayvon in Frank's yard, then this indicates that I might have been right about something. I've wondered whether GZ first noticed Trayvon as he was coming into the gated community through the shortcut adjacent to Frank's house. There is a well-known shortcut from the main road that would have reduced the distance from the 7-11 store compared to using the main gate. Lots of people use this path, including schoolchildren, but I've read that Frank doesn't like this. Maybe GZ saw Trayvon cutting through and considered this breaking the rules? He's called the police before on people who left their garage doors open.
