    The Heart of the Matter

I don’t think anyone will ever be able to connect  the racism dots when it comes to George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin. The really creepy part about the two names is that they will forever be interconnected, like Abraham Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth. While not of the same magnitude as a presidential assassination, a life is still a life is still a life, and none is more valuable than another, whether red, yellow, black, white or any shade in between. We’re not talking red state/blue state; we’re talking about life and death, and it’s not a game.

Let’s take a quick look at the sad case of 45-year-old Michael Dunn. News reports say he “allegedly” fired 8-9 shots into an SUV parked at a convenience store on Friday night. I say there’s nothing alleged about it. He did it. The question is why. He said he didn’t mean to kill anyone. 8 or 9 bullets and he didn’t mean to what? The fact that he fired at all is a tragedy.

From all accounts, Dunn and his girlfriend had just left his son’s wedding reception and stopped at the Gate Food Post convenience store at 8251 Southside Blvd. in Jacksonville on the way back to their hotel room. He pulled up next to the SUV that had music booming LOUDLY. When he got out of his vehicle, he confronted the four occupants and complained. TURN IT DOWN, he screamed. An argument ensued and Dunn pulled out his gun. Some of the shots struck and killed 17-year-old high school student Jordan Davis, who was sitting in the backseat. No one in the SUV was armed, according to initial reports. Lt. Rob Schoonover with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said, “They were listening to a little music. It was loud, they admitted that, but, I mean, that’s not reason for someone to open fire on them.” (See: Many unanswered questions in loud music killing)

I hate to drag Florida through the coals again because shootings happen all over the world. Texas is a great state for shooting from the hip, so we are far from alone. Taken at face value, this seems to be your typical white-on-black shooting, and in some circles, the killer would be considered justified because of two simple “reasons” — the shooter owned his gun legally and the victim was black. Or African-American, if we need to be politically correct. Need more ‘splainin’? Talk to the hand. Yet it seems that the mere fact of being white and owning a gun somehow legitimizes a killing, but only if the victim is of color. God forbid that two white boys with concealed carry permits gun each other down. That would never make the news because there’s no worthy angle, and angles are the nature of news; black/white or white/black. Just like Hispanic/Hispanic doesn’t go far. There’s no racial edge.

We may question the motives of an angry white man leaving his son’s wedding reception where, I’m sure, alcohol flowed freely. We don’t know if Dunn even had a drop to drink, but we do know that a defenseless 17-year-old boy is dead. What sort of threat could any of the young men have been to the gunman? Why, if the shooter was so innocent, did he leave the scene and return to his hotel, only to drive home to Brevard County in the morning, where he was found and arrested? No one EVER shoots up a vehicle and leaves the scene unless they hope there are no witnesses.

Dunn entered a not guilty plea on Monday to charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder. His attorney said he acted responsibly and in self-defense. Shades of stand your ground! I can see it coming! At the precise second Dunn pulled out his gun, he felt threatened.

I feel that people like George Zimmerman and Michael Dunn make a mockery of the stand your ground law, but some dynamics are at work. While its intent may be all well and good, there are idiots who interpret SYG as a license to kill. They take more than the law into their own hands because, in both situations here, the shooter was the instigator, the judge, the jury and the executioner. It seems as if people like them believe they are wearing SYG armor and are impervious to prosecution. It’s called an arrogant sense of entitlement. Go figure.

Mark my words, Dunn’s defense team will subpoena Jordan Davis’s cell phone records. If the boy owned a smart phone, the defense will collect information from it; who he talked to, sent text messages to, and where he visited online. Rest assured, if he listened to Hip Hop music, used Hip Hop text language and visited gangsta sites, like all of today’s youth, he will be painted as a no good degenerate, just like the picture Mark O’Mara will try to portray of Trayvon Martin. It’s called character assassination. This leads me to an obvious segue. Please allow me to ‘splain. Yo, Yo, Yo…

    §

Word on the street (and in the Orlando Sentinel) is that law enforcement has failed to download all of the data from Trayvon Martin’s cell phone, particularly what’s stored on the chip residing inside the phone. Why? Because the phone is still password protected. Tracy Martin, Trayvon’s father, knows the PIN, but he has yet to turn it over to authorities. There may be a few reasons for withholding that number, too, but what’s important to note first is that the defense does have information regarding the last few calls, according to Mark O’Mara. We’ll get back to that.

The gist of the matter is rather plain and easy to understand, but first the problem about perception. If Tracy Martin is keeping the PIN away from law enforcement, he must be hiding something, right? I mean, what else could the reason be? This would prove the kid was up to no good and deserved to be shot. George’s mission from God that night was to take out a boy who was clearly on a path of evil and destruction. Who knows how many people he would have harmed had he not been stopped right then and there; the night of February 26?

    Yeah, right. How delusional.

If the Sanford police came to my door, showed me a photograph of my dead son and said he was killed in self-defense, only to find out later that the circumstances might not have been as law enforcement presented them; that my son was actually the victim instead, would I be inclined to trust them with any evidence at all? Remember, it was the Sanford police that insisted the screams for help came from Zimmerman, and when pumped for an answer to that very question at a most inopportune moment, Tracy said he didn’t think it was Trayvon’s voice. Is it? Is it? Well, is it? The man was in agony and denial at the time. What would anyone expect from a grieving father after recently finding out his son was killed and never coming back?

As time went on, it became apparent to Trayvon’s parents that the police were doing nothing to seek the truth regarding the death of their son. Things had deteriorated to the point that, on March 5, Sgt. Joe Santiago asked Tracy for the PIN, and his response was, at best, less than obligatory. He told the sergeant he’d check with his attorney. Three days later, during a March 8 news conference, Martin told the media he would not help the police because they were of no help to him. “My son left Sanford, Florida, in a body bag while George Zimmerman went to sleep in his own bed.”

What we must remember is that, while the PIN has been elusive, gaining important information from the phone has not. It was eventually sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, where crime lab specialist Stephen Brenton was able to analyze the contents of the SIM and SD cards. Without the PIN, the data on the phone’s internal chip remains a mystery, but the two cards were revealing enough. From the Orlando Sentinel:

The information downloaded by Brenton at the FDLE lab “tells me the last few phone calls, but that’s about it,” [Zimmerman defense attorney] O’Mara said. “It looks like there is other information that I should have.”

This leads me right back to the heart of the matter. What difference does it make to anyone about the phone calls, text messages and Website visits Trayvon made days and weeks leading up to his death? O’Mara has records leading up to the shooting. What more does he need? Well, just like what I expect any criminal defense team to do, O’Mara’s goal will be to assassinate the character of Trayvon Martin. To what other end would it serve? That would mean Trayvon would die twice — once in real life and once in the courtroom — and if I were his parents, I’d do nothing to help the defense team. Absolutely nothing. Because everything will be taken out of context in a world where half-full becomes half-empty, and innocent texts between Trayvon and his mother could readily turn into a new and freakier Casey Anthony sideshow; where simple words become innuendo, perversions, and complete distortions of the truth. That would truly be heartbreaking.

Following is a short little video that I just came across. It takes us back a few days to all the talk about Zimmerman's begging for 'funds.'

According to Stutzman, $140,000.00 of that has been raised since May 3, 2012.

Now, that is a lot of smackeroos in a little over six months. What are they spending all that money on? What--are the whole dang bunch of them holed up at the Ritz eating crab puffs and caviar?

[I first saw it this morning. Anyone bleeding always looks bad, especially from the face and head. It still looks like it could have been the gun's recoil that did it. How will Z prove Trayvon did it with no evidence on his hands? No DNA; no blood. A tiny cut. Whoop! Whoop!]

Oh, thhat injury is nothing! He should have had an eyeball pop out before he defends his life! I mean this kid was only 17!!!! 17 year olds are children and should not even be harmed if they attack you because you are watching them!!! Has it been discussed yet how DeeDee is 18 years old and not a traumatized child?

Hey there, Britt. Gosh, it is kind of nice to hear from you!

Nah, the law would not require him to have his eyeball popped out before he could invoke the SYG law; however, he is required to show 'reasonable' fear.

Following is a link to a picture that Dave' posted on an earlier blog of Zimmerman and his nose--taken only a few hours after that bloody old thing that was released today.

Zimmerman in police station on the night of February 26, 2012

Quite a difference, no? Also, that picture was taken on Officer Wagner's private phone--do you suppose the prosecution should seize that phone to make sure that photo was not tampered with? Chain of custody, and all.

(You know, something like what the defense is wanting to do with Mr. Crump's 'recording' equipment.)

Speaking of Mr. Crump--isn't he great! On Anderson Cooper tonight, they quoted him as saying that he is still waiting to see the exray's of Georgie's nose that Georgie refused to get. Even though he had been advised to do so. ; - )

And remember, your hero was not just 'watching' Travyon--he freely left his vehicle and was chasing after him.

Did you all get that straightened out yet concerning DeeDee's age? I heard that snooping into the private affairs of a minor who is in no way connected to this case may be considered a chargeable offense. Just sayin'

    December 3, 2012 | Registered Commenternan11

If this picture is saying Trayvon did it then George Zimmerman should have been taken to emergency!!! Why did he not want to go, and why have previous pics shortly after the incident not shown this bump on the nose or degree of blood? I don't believe ZG received this look because of anything Trayvon is accused of, and not forgetting GZ had no cause whatsoever to have stalked and followed Trayvon. This wimp GZ would not have if he REALLY thought Trayvon was carrying a weapon, and he sure as heck knew he was carrying, in hand. What possible chance did Trayvon have except to TRY and protect himself, from this lying piece of scrap. My feelings can't change the law but sure as heck, if there is a law that says GZ was in HIS RIGHT to intimidate, stalk, and kill a
young black teen, then I have little respect for how that law is applied.

Dave: Sorry about my exaggeration of exactly when O'Mara's interview was to start, but they really did say it was coming up 'next'. 'Next' just happened to be about three segues later.

You have probably read the following linked motion by now, but I noticed O'Mara managed to bring it up in his interview tonight, so I thought I would post it here.

    Motion To Take Additional Deposition

Quote From Page 3, Number 7:
    {snipped} The State has a continuing obligation to disclose Brady Material and evidence to the defense. It is not allowed to sit silent, waiting to see if the Brady information is disclosed by the happenstance of a specific question, or the honesty of an investigator. {snipped}

IMO, what he is really fishing for is someone who will appear credible to a jury who will take the stand and say that Tracy definitely did say that it was not Trayvon screaming.

Earlier I looked high and low through the discovery to find a portion that I know I had read some time ago, stating that one police officer was lurking around the general vicinity when Serino was playing the tape for Tracy. I believe he said that he thought he heard Tracy say 'no.'

Even though I know I read it, I cannot link it because I could not find it. I am disappointed because, according to O"Mara, the state was trying to 'hide' something from him. However, if it was that incident that he was referring to, it was released in discovery ages ago.

So, I think it is his own fault that he didn't know about it earlier. (imnsho) : - )

Here is a great picture that LLMPapa did earlier and posted at JQ.

I think it captures the 'spirit' of the motion. And the 'surprise' release of the brightened and bloodied photograph.

The more I think about this latest picture of Zimmerman claiming self-defense the more it tells me that a young black teen found himself in a puzzling situation form the moment he realized GZ was stalking and following every move he made. GZ did not listen to the advise "are you following him,?" "we don't need you to do that"! He left his truck, carrying his gun, went into close proximity of a young teen who by this time must have been in a state of wonder at what this man was up to. Fear as GZ approached him. GZ did approach Trayvon, WITH A GUN! What would we do in the same situation. Just stand there and do nothing? Run? Fight for our life as best we could? I really would love to hear O'Mara explain what "he" would do if he had been in Trayvons place that evening? Can someone ask him? Forget about what has happened Mr. O'Mara and just explain what you might have done having someone driving, stalking, creeping up on you with a gun and you had no weapon ready to meet his match. Sorry Dave, I couldn't sleep so thinking can run off the edges sometimes. Do you ever have the problem?

    December 4, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNew Puppy

Dave, if DeeDee has been 18 all along, why did all the attorneys close to the case refer to her over and over and over again as 16? Probably for the same reason 5 year old pics of Trayvon were used to portray the victim right? The whole narrative that Trayvon was scared and fearful of George come from DeeDee, thats it. Is she credible? Are you credible if you knew your lover was in peril and being stalked and you know he ended up dead, but you didn't mention it to anyone? Not his parents and not the police? But we are supposed to believe Trayvon was scared because she said so? And then we have Tracy Martin not cooperating to release a code to go through his sons phone? The very phone he was telling Dee he was scared and being stalked?

The State needs to drop the charges already to avoid further embarrassment and maybe throw up some fraud charges Crump and the Martins way.

    December 4, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBritt

@ Britt: Only in your dreams will the State drop charges!!

The State has a strong case of 2nd degree murder against defendant Zimmerman, (may his name and his fat ass soon be forgotten.)

DeeDee's age has not been released.

Perhaps because certain blogs like to release personal details, the State has taken measures to keep her identity private.

You all like to justify Z's paranoid need to hide, yet you think a teen should put herself out there to be harassed.

I would like to see a link that supports your statement concerning Trayvon and DeeDee being lovers. According to my information, Trayvon and DeeDee were 'getting' to be boyfriend and girlfriend. That is a long way from lovers.

No worries, though. I'm not holding my breath waiting for a link that I know you cannot provide.

Miss DeeDee will be a credible witness. I hope you drop in the day she takes the stand.

IMO, the Defense needs to get on with the business of defending the morally indefensible; and to stop harassing the victim's parents and the witnesses.

Except people who actually are scared of someone and fear for their lives, and can run home and get away from someone they know for sure is in a parked car, do get away and he had ample time to get back to the house, and use his phone to call 911. Its just fact there was more than enough time for Trayvon if truly fearing for his life to have escaped the menacing George. Most people when truly scared or their lives dont get aggressive and attack someone knowing its possible the person could be armed. The only person who claims in his last moments on earth he was so scared and being stalked is someone who went to the funeral knowing he had died and never told a soul. Why is she credible? Because shes 16? Oh no... wait....

    December 4, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBritt

@ Britt: DeeDee is credible because her statements meld with the times from the NEN call. That is a sure sign of truth.

You know--many, many, many years ago--there was a time when I was being pursued by a man in a vehicle. I was on foot. What did I do? I ran in the opposite direction of my home. I ran toward darkness and isolation. I wanted to find a place to hide.

It worked for me. I lived.

Trayvon Martin met a depraved killer with a gun tucked in his waistband. That depraved killer shattered Trayvon's heart with a 9mm hollow point bullet.

There are no laws dictating what Trayvon had to do in moments of great fear.

Dave: First, I give thanks to the poster Sun at JQ for finding this information. (Truly I looked for a good two hours for it last night, and was working up the courage to search again.)

This person said that he could not hear Mr. Martin’s statement. The first link following is from a report prepared by a “Leon H. Ciesla,” dated March 3, 2012.

The second link is one I came across last night, and is somewhat contradictory to the first link. This last one was filed by Serino, and is dated earlier—February 28, 2012.

Note that Serino states that no audio recording of that interview was made, and that he only names Sgt. Leon Ceisla as being present during the playing of the 911 tapes for Tracy.

Suddenly, O’Mara is claiming that an Investigator Erwin was in the room at the time. Apparently, Erwin ‘told’ O’Connor, who ‘told’ Mr. de la Rionda. Anything in writing, boys? Convenient, what?

Sorry for the length of this.

    Page 20 – Last Paragraph, Dated 3/19/12:

    Quote:
On 2/28/2012 at approximately 1040 hours I was walking through the Major Crimes office area and I observed Investigator Serino at his desk playing 911 recordings for Trayvon Martin’s father and a female. I decided to stop and stay in the area once I realized that the 911 recordings were being played in case I could render any assistance to the family or Investigator Serino. I was standing by the walkway and a post was separating me from directly seeing Mr. Martin’s reactions. Before the 911 call of a person yelling in the background was played, Investigator Serino warned them that there was disturbing content. I could not hear Mr. Martin’s reply and Investigator Serino proceeded to play the recording. I did hear Investigator Serino ask Mr. Martin if that was his son yelling in the background. I did not hear a reply. Mr. Martin was talking very softly when I did hear him. I do not know what order the tapes were played in as I was not directly involved with talking to Mr. Martin.

    Also this:
Quote From Page 56 of 184, dated 2/28/2012:

    Quote:
{snipped} I played the recordings on my desktop computer, and upon playing the 911 call placed by [redacted] in which a voice is heard in the background yelling for help multiple times, I asked Mr. Martin if the voice calling for help was that of his son. Mr. Martin, clearly emotionally impacted by the recording, quietly responded “no”. This encounter was not audio recorded, and no further questioning in the matter was conducted. Sgt. Leon Ceisla was present during the playing of the 911 tapes for Mr. Martin.

Britt, You are desperately trying to break believers in Trayvon, just to be able to stick your tongue out at those who are strong in support of him. He was being sought out from the moment George laid eyes on him to stalk, intimidate and kill just because he could, bearing a deadly weapon. I wonder how long George has had the urge to kill. He certainly had plenty of time during his following of Trayvon to give serious thought NOT to do harm to a young teen, just because he saw him available. The law speaks pre-meditation and I understand what it means. There was a pre-meditation in George that night or he would never have left his pickup, he did not see a crime in action, he knew he was frightening this unsuspecting youth. George was enjoying every minute of having the opportunity in actually having someone feel in danger of him. George had a need to cause Trayvon to feel he was being hunted, to want Trayvon to feel the fear, to kill. I am just one who reads your comments but you will never convince me that George Zimmerman acted in self-defense, he had nothing to defend. There was no act by Trayvon prior to George stepping up to his face with a gun.

Pointing out that phone records match timelines does not PROVE she heard Trayvon in fear of his life. If she did and knew he died and went to his funeral, why did she not tell anyone at that point what she heard? Could she have heard him say, I am going to go **** up this guy, be right back, and died as a result? The answer is YES. I cant blindly believe someone who did not go screaming to the cops or his parents, and in fact, they never knew she existed until the phone records, which is weird because you would think at the funeral you would introduce yourself to his parents. Some of you can just believe her and set aside all the red flags that come with her. I won't and especially not now when her age is in question.

[Dang it, Britt! The girl DID NOT attend the funeral. PERIOD. And you have no idea what the date was when she spoke to anyone. Dave, when did she go to the cops? If she was not at the funeral, and I dont believe she was , is the story why she didn't go because she was in the hospital? The facts are she never told the cops and she came to light because of Tracy Martin and Crump. Lets not act like we know her because she ran crying to Sanford PD after learning Trayvon had been killed after what she heard. Had she done that, I would have believed her. A jury is never, ever, ever going to take her as credible. A few of those jurors are actually going to be people who have lost loved ones and maybe even to violence and wont understand her actions, bottom line.

[She does not live in Sanford. She told the people she thought were the right ones. She was under no legal obligation to drive up from Miami. Has she been arrested? Until she is, you have no authority to speak on anyone's behalf, and you know nothing about her. NOTHING.]

I put a new post up. Short and sweet.

    Dave,

Britt is trolling. A troll is recognizable by insistently demanding answers to questions or responses to statements, and, in return, will generally ignore those responses (or divert the conversation). And God knows her obsession with DeeDee is annoying, as well as wearisome.

You and everyone else have been more than gracious, but my unsolicited advice is Do Not Feed The Troll.

Nan11, You are so equipped with information. I know I have seen pictures but is there any direction you can point me in to see all the pictures taken of Zimmerman the night of his attack on Trayvon or days close in time afterwards. Since this bloodied face one has appeared I am interested in viewing side by side all the pictures available for their dates and times taken. Don't most have that right on the film, picture, video or whatever is used? However, please do not go to great length or make it a big job for yourself. It looks like a prop nose with whole cranberry sauce to look like blood but I give to it being real.

New Puppy: I'm not sure if this will be exactly what you are looking for, but I'll add a few links.

The first fourteen at this link were taken at the police station the night Zimmerman shot Trayvon and was taken in for questioning. (You can use the little raised 'buttons' at the top right of the pictures to flip through them.)
Business Insider | New Photos From Trayvon Martin Killing Show Zimmerman Bloody And Injured

I just came across the following link a little while ago. It was tweeted by Jeff Weiner of the Orlando Sentinel. Weiner says these are the ‘originals’ that he obtained from the prosecutors today--Dec. 4/2012.

One thing to keep in mind when viewing these, is that the front view of Zimmerman's face was taken by a police officer but on his private cell phone. Apparently he took it to 'show' witnessess at the scene that night as he was wondering if any of them knew Zimmerman. (He also took one of Trayvon that they showed to his father the next day.)

The back view of Zimmerman's head was taken by the first witness on the scene, also on the personal cell phone of the witness. By the time the police became aware of them, he had downloaded and deleted them from his cell phone and had them on his computer--where they could have been easily manipulated. (Witness 6, iirc.)

Here is the link for the side-by-sides of those two pictures:
    From J. Weiner - Side-by-Side of Zimmerman

The below link is for a side-by-side that LLMPapa did and posted at JQ. He has taken the time to put the time stamps across the tops for us.
Close-ups and Dated Pictures of Zimmerman Alledged Nose Injury

This is an older one of Zimmerman that I just 'Googled' for. I hope it is okay to link--I don't really know who to give credit to it for. What I find interesting about this one is that it shows the slightly flattened flared nose look that appears in the 'bloodied' photo. Just imo, though.
    An Earlier Shot of Zimmerman

    Hope this helps a little.

THANK you Nan11 ! This will keep me busy for awhile!

    Nan11,

Either my head is not working right or something is just not......" right "..in looking at the DATES and TIMES on the two up close nose pics. As you have under "Close up and dated pictures of Zimmerman's alledged nose injury"

7:31 PM 2/26/2012 Nose is swollen and bloody to mouth area
    5 hrs.
12:21 AM 2/27/2012 Nose appears normal other than slight scratch

How could this emphasized injury to his nose have healed and swelling down in approximately five hrs. Please, if I am not seeing this right let me know.

Again, to you and all others who are so talented and timely with keeping information readily available and provided so quickly that one like myself can take advantage of. It seems I can spend the most part of a day and never get all this linking and stuff figured out, and certainly not be assured of bringing forth timely and factual info like you do. Recently tried to revamp my old facebook from 2010 and can see why I let it go then because I still can not seem to get up and running like I would hope to do and to use for any good purpose. I'll never have use for an kind of fan club so not much to lose if never getting it up and going properly. I can do many things except for the more intricate technology and fixing a car, fear can do a job on us sometimes. Anyway, for all who provide so much for easy access. I am one that has been very appreciative of you.

New Puppy: You are more 'modern' and brave than I. I have not 'ventured' on Facebook yet!

I honestly believe that the times on the double picture of Zimmerman's nose injury are correct with what has been released in discovery. The gentleman that did that does fact check all his work and is extremely reliable.

After looking at them, I came away with the same exact questions as you have.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no record of anyone applying ice to the swelling or anything like that.

IIRC, the 7:31 pm photo is about ten minutes before Zimmerman was treated by the EMT's.

Still, I can't think of any treatment that they could have administered that would have worked so quickly. Again, iirc, according to their reports--they used only sterile water (or possibly peroxide), to wash away the blood.

It leaves me questioning the authenticity of the photo. I need to go back through the documents to brush up on the 'path' of it; but I believe that photo was not secured for some time and definitely could have received some adjustments before it turned up in the prosecutor's office.

The only other option that occurrs to me is that his wounds were extremely superficial; and that might account for how quickly the swelling abated.
