Marinade King
I know I haven’t been active on my blog lately and I don’t know if I can explain why. I guess there’s been a few reasons — good and bad. I will emerge from this funk and pick up the pace. Meanwhile…
I imagine some of you have wondered where the “marinade” part came from in my online name.
The following is a photo that ran in The Orlando Sentinel, along with a nice story, way back in April of 1994. It was three months after I started making and selling Marinade King, based on my very own recipe. It didn’t take long until some of my friends started calling me Marinade Dave. The name stuck.
One day, I’m going to make a great big batch of it. Soon, I hope…

Maybe it's the weather... or something... I haven't felt like posting either.
Who knew! ;0) Ur quite the versatile man.
I'm one of those who actually reads your marinade pages..love me some marinaded whatever I have in the fridge! Meat without marinade is like..well..plain meat! Unless it;s really good meat...then garlic butter will do.
I try to be, Alyce, but I sometimes think my talents are waning.
Hi Dave. I hope you get out of your funk, soon. I've been there, myself.. I often wondered, where the name came from. Now, I know. When you make a batch, I would like to try it..
OMG you look like a baby in that picture.
What ever happened with the marinade? Do you still own the rights? Do you still make and sell it?
Is the marinade for all meats (except fish) or just beef?
Nuf' questions?
I hope I do, too, Joanna. It's a miserable feeling and it's time to get it over with. When I make another batch, I will let you know. It may be a while, but I'll do it. Thanks.
Sarah - There are never too many questions, although I may not have all the answers. I was 41 in that picture, so I guess I was almost a baby, relatively speaking.
The marinade did well. I sold over 12,000 bottles during the three years I made it. I think that was the timeframe. I no longer make it because it got to be too much work and not enough profit. I returned to the design business to pay the bills, but with the intent to go back into the business after some tweaking. I had a bottler lined up. However, as the product grew, the formula changed drastically and, in large-scale batches, it would have been way beyond my scope.
If I choose to make it again, yes, I could use the same name, but I think I'd almost rather sell the recipe. It was killer stuff! As I did food demos, customers told me how they used it. That's how I discovered it worked with everything, including vegetables. The first time I ate marinated grilled asparagus, it was incredible.
By the way, there's a "Marinating Tips" page linked at the top of the blog. It's got a lot of insightful information. The original intent of this blog, and how I started, was to write about marinades. After doing that, I realized I couldn't just publish recipes, so I diversified and began writing human interest stories; some about my humorous experiences. In November of 2008, I picked up on the Casey Anthony case (because I live in Orlando) and never looked back.
Thanks!
Once upon a time, back on Dec 25th, 2008, I ventured into a blog while surfing around Wordpress. I left a very brief comment. Over the next couple of months, I found myself going back to read only and I liked what I read and how that blog owner was managing his blog.
I began to comment, a little more each day, and it developed into me wanting to be part of that blog as a contributor on a full time basis. I must admit that the road was bumpy at times. I would not be exaggerating if I said, "my relationship with that blog owner became like fire and gasoline on many occasions." It seemed we could never agree to disagree about facts and or rumors regarding the Casey Anthony case, just two stubborn old goats with neither one about to relent.
It was not unusual for me to get in a snit and make my leave only for the blog owner to write a post like, "A Hard Cell" to lure me back. Ahem! Yes, I went back and things would run smooth until the next, "full throttle (what he would like to do with his hands around my neck), and then ignition."
Here it is over four years later and not much has changed except for the fact that blog owner and I developed a great friendship. Oh there are still the sparks that fly at times. (Sometimes it seems like a form of self-mutilation.) lol
It saddens me to know my dear friend is going through a rough time. Old habits die hard and I check in here many times a day, waiting and hoping this blog will once again come to life. You may think I am greedy and you could very well be right. I would hate to see this ONCE VERY SPECIAL blog become just a memory!!
How about it, Dave?? You and only you, can make my wish come true.
psst...take down that pic of the man and the marinade...he is a bag of bones...yuk!!
See, there is news out there...and I can work both jobs.. now back to Arias..
Shellie was in the courtroom on Tuesday as her attorney, Kelly Sims, asked for the dismissal of the case. Sims said the special prosecutor appointment on the Trayvon Martin case didn't cover Shellie Zimmerman's perjury. According to the executive order, the special prosecutor's powers were for "all matters pertaining to death of Trayvon Martin," so Sims said Shellie Zimmerman's charge isn't included.
The judge ruled that the special prosecutor had the jurisdiction to charge Shellie Zimmerman with perjury and a docket sounding will be held on April 17.

Judge denies motion to dismiss Shellie Zimmerman perjury case
There were some better times, Snoopy. I was in my prime when writing about the Anthony case. We sure did have our moments, though.
I am slowly lifting myself up and out of the hole I dug and placed myself into. I've had some recent eye openers that took a whole lot of funk right out of me, so it's getting better all the time. I missed some opportunities, but I still have a number of things to say about the Zimmerman case.
Thanks, I appreciate your support. The above picture was taken after I lost 40 lbs over a love loss. Damn! I hate it when that happens. Slowly, I'm losing it again...
As for Shellie's motion, I'm not a bit surprised. The governor made it clear when he initially mandated the investigation and subsequent charges. It was all-inclusive. The governor reiterated his position later on, after Shellie filed the dismissal motion. He said that it covered EVERYTHING related to the Zimmerman case. That's why she lost. I haven't even read the judge's denial, but it was a no-brainer. By the way, Judge Alva was an old drinking buddy of mine. Bailey's in Winter Park. Had I remembered and gone to the hearing, she probably would have recognized me, but would she have given me a nod? Gee... look what happened last time that happened!
Dave~~Now you are whistling Dixie! A good scandal or conspiracy would certainly liven things up.

Throw the shirt in the laundry (the one with your heart on the sleeve)..don a muscle shirt, flex your biceps and get down to that courthouse and hang out.
Words of encouragement from an OLD lady!
Sometimes fate steps in when we least expect it to spare us from agony down the road. We will not always understand why at the time. During that time, which will feel like years, we will venture onto an emotional roller coaster ride or better called a slow and painful emotional suicide in an attempt to escape. Time does heal. During the process, we are being conditioned and as a result, in the end, will have become much stronger and wiser. It is all part of God's, or if you are an atheist, nature's plan.
Dave, Sure looks like people got a lot of marinade for the money when you put it out for sale, from the size of those bottles. I don't eat very much meat but sounds right to use on vegetables. Is there anything you haven't done. Like fashion design, etc. You sure do not look like 41 in this picture. Like in early 20's or close.
Hey Garbanzo - HOW YOU BEAN? :-)
Been wondering where the heck you been. Now I know. Dave I go through this all the time so I know how you feel. I actually thought you were mad at me for the long rant letter I wrote to you about the Daily Kos!
Maybe you need to go rescue a kitty from the pound? I'm sure Lucy won't mind, in fact I bet she would want you to help her fellow brothers/sisters out you know? It might be a good distraction plus the benefits of unconditional love and all.....of course I understand if you're not ready - just a suggestion.
I don't think I told you but I quit my nanny job and moved about 5 months ago. 7 years was enough! I've been staying/renting with a friend and its done wonders for my attitude. Its a weird adjustment not having a kid knocking on my door 10 times a day thats for sure!
Anyway the friend I'm staying with had just acquired these 2 kittens from the pound a few months before - they're brothers -she named them Edward and Jacob. (can't tell who she's obsessed with huh?) Edward loves me he's constantly in my room bugging me, getting into my stuff, etc... he does this thing, I'll be doing something on my computer, reading or whatever and he comes up behind me and stands on his hind legs and puts his paws on my right shoulderand meows - then just stays there like he's reading over my shoulder its just about one of the funniest thing I've ever seen a cat do.....
Well take your time Dave but hurry up will you :-)
Were you never tempted by Floridas huge reseves of oranges.
To get into preserves.
Then you could have been Marmalade Dave.
I lost my Maisy Daisy to Cancer on November 5th.
Although she was elderly she was eating an loveing life as per.
However about 8 mnths before she died I found a lump about a small ping pong ball
The vet removed through surgggery an told us it was malignant.
She continued to eat an drink well but started to lose weight.
She was always sall anyway an the weight just fell of her.
Although she was in no pain we knew it had come back.
Vet confirmed that we bring her in weekly as there was nothing to do.
Few days later she stopped eating an would only drink a little.
She came on to my bed an I held her an stroked her an told her what a good girl she was.
After an hour she had a couple of sizeures.
She pulled roung Gail my partner wanted to say goodbye an hold her.
So she cuddled her soothed her Maisy Daisy licked her neck an a few seconds later she passed.
Surrounded by love from me Gail an Toerag.
Its such a loss in your life to have to say goodbye to a dear dear loved one.
When the time is right the best way to cherish the memory of a loved pet is to share that love with another whom needs it.
You will know when its time....
Ecossie~~
On Feb 2nd, Dave posted this on FB.

Yoohoo, Dave... hope you don't mind me posting that. No Arias trial on Fridays so have some free time/ Hope all is going well ...xo
That is so awesome!
My Dear Dave, I feel so guilty.. I have been staying away from Zimmerman trial because for some reason my mind jumps to the end and I have bad feelings about ending, no matter how it ends. I just hope people realize that the case is about justice and not anything political.. Now I feel bad, wish I could help you in some way..Snoopy above talked about you two sparring in the past..I miss those days.I found your site first and fell in love with your stories, your history of Fl. and then came casey..You brought all of us along to court each day.. You and Snoops gave us an education in law..Snoops and you at times were so funny with your back and forth banter that it made us laugh. Do you have my message yet,I want you to feel good again because I miss you. My day isn't right if I can't read your blog..My prayer is that you feel better soon and hurry back my
friend
PS Great picture ,I love the hand drawn one too...
