    Simon and the Barrettones

I am in the midst of writing an article about Friday’s hearing, along with a thing or two about last night’s CBS broadcast, Only Casey Knows, on 48 Hours Mystery. When I’m finished, of course I will publish it, but in the meantime, I will be offering commentary on Simon Barrett’s radio show today, along with the usual suspects. Please feel free to join me and the others by listening and offering your thoughts on the cha cha cha chat channel.

Here is where you’ll find it…

I thought you'd like it, Simon. I can't wait to hear your little ditty.

Thanks for the reminder, Dave. I will be there listening.

Simon, Dave plays a mean guitar. I play the spoons. Maybe you should sing the program. Cobra is probably good on the washboard. Jan can yodel . Okay, I am nuts right?

Oops, I almost forgot Denny. He strikes me a good fiddle player. Peter, on the musical saw.

Thanks for the reminder Dave. I will be listening and reading blog Snoops. Dave after 48 hours show, if you were George, would you be worried? Neither Baez or LKB would give definite answer. Will this Gabriel be involved with picking actual jury or was he only for the show? Thanks Dave. Going to make sandwich and get ready for show.

Hi Dave! Be sure to mention that the 48 Hours Mystery program can be watched ahead of time. It is listed on their website: http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7362976n&tag=contentMain;contentBody.

I have watched it. Highly skewed towards the Defense. And it definitely appears that George is going to be fingered the crime.

Dave, great show today! Everyone on the panel did a good job.

    April 17, 2011 | Registered CommenterMary Jo

Dave, I am glad you got thru the show with your sore throat. You did very well in answering the questions posed to you as did Denny. It is always nice to hear Jan's opinion.

I believe a little too much time was devoted to Casey's adoration of her counsel. The insinuations that Casey and Baez were engaging in sex at his office was a bit much. Didn't Baez's daughter work part-time at his office as well as other staff? I always felt Casey spent time at the Baez law firm to avoid her mother and the constant questioning. It was mentioned today that Baez was asked outright, if he was having a romantic relationship with Casey. Baez was flushed and said he would not dignify it with an answer. Because he did not answer, he is guilty. This is just plain stupid for anyone to think that. Baez is a married man. Why do some people only look for the worse in people? Baez may not be a great lawyer but I think folks should give him a break.

I was disappointed that more time had not been spent on discussing CBS 48hours. That is the lead story in today's news and was worthy of more radio time and less should have been devoted to why Casey's desk at the hearing was almost bare. Casey's demeanor at the hearings does not hold much relevance, it is how she comes across in front of a jury that will count.

Just some of my honest opinions on today's radio show. I am far from wishy washy and tell it like I see it. Just call me the grinch. LOL

    April 17, 2011 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

Snoopy, I will stand with your opinion today. Too much time spent, is it Peter, on Casey's blouse adjustments, as a matter of fact I saw her just the opposite a few times. She seemed to want to make sure she was proper with it. Just too much men chat on the sexual side, not enough on the current issues. 48 hours had a lot of meat to be discussed in my opinion. As far as Casey putting her hands on Cheney's back, for crying out loud, what was that all about. Frankly the opportunity was not much for Dave to participate, so he seemed to be on chat more than usual which indicated he was a little disappointed in the subject as well. To have a need to convey Jose Baez and Casey had/are having an affair is imo ridiculous and void of any common sense. I ended up with thoughts of little Haleigh Cummings. What has ever been concluded with this child's disappearance. Talk about a little girl being discarded like she was trash by family, LE and media ??????

    April 17, 2011 | Registered CommenterNew Puppy

I don't believe that Casey and Baez had any kind of sexual relationship. People seem to forget that there are a lot of other people that are in his law firm besides just him and they wouldn't have been able to do anything for that simple reason. I, too, think she spent a lot of time at his office to avoid her mother and father and all their questions.

    April 17, 2011 | Registered CommenterMary Jo

New Puppy~~thank goodness you felt the same as me about today's program. I guess it was easier to talk about the sexual implications than have a discussion of the facts in the Anthony case... There is so much out there that takes priority to Casey touching Cheney Mason's waist when she tried to manoeuver into her chair. I even heard it implied that she touched his buttocks. It is not just media outlets that sensationalize, a couple blogs come to mind. And speaking of mind, you cannot read someones mind by studying their body language.

I am not a prude by any means but there is a time and place for certain things to be discussed. I would have left the blog radio after 15 minutes if it had not been for Dave being a panelist.

Haleigh Cummings, soon folks wont even remember that name. So very sad!

    April 17, 2011 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

Mary Jo, can you imagine Casey spending all those hours with Cindy? I have a feeling that we would be discussing Casey's demise and Cindy's trial. If Casey ever beats this rap, she best hightail it far away from Cindy. It is so easy to say words like , "I love you," or "Casey was my best friend" but it much harder to mean them.

There was so much made of the pics when Baez had his arm around Casey under the umbrella as they leftt the jail. What was Baez supposed to do, let the mob tear her limb from limb? It was raining and blowing a gale of wind that day, in fact, his umbrella almost turned inside out. Why don't people look at the real situation and use a little logic?

    April 17, 2011 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

Good show today Dave! Hope your throat is not going to be a big problem and you can lick it quickly. I tend to believe as Snoopy about B aez and Casey having an affair. I believe Casey sees a man and she goes into a flirty mode, Baez being a man probably enjoyed it, but I think Baez knows the boundaries. He asked Lee about some receipts he had seen in a room at Baez office that had all of Casey evidence. Maybe that was Casey job at his office all day, organizing that room. I can't believe George and Lee molested her either. You are not best friends with your molester. Lee and Casey have been described as being really close, best friends. I think all of that is Part of Casey's Poor Me attitude. IMO if Caylee did die from some accident, Casey is just as guilty as if she used her bare hands, because of what she did to hide the fact and the way she just took her to a wooded dump site and threw her away. Caylees little body rotting away and Casey partied on. I'm sorry Dave but if I spend much time thinking about what happened from June 15th. thru December to Caylee, the death penalty seems justified. ............Feel better soon.

Snoopy, I wouldn't have wanted to spend that much time around Cindy, but I think in this case she had a right to try and get answers out of Casey about Caylee. It is the way she goes about trying to get the answers that is wrong. I believe they have always had a volatile relationship and I don't believe for a minute that Cindy and Casey were best friends like Cindy said on 48 hours. This family will never be the same so if Casey does beat this, and I am sure she won't, she won't stick around the family. She will take off and not look back.

Good evening Dave, hope you are feeling better but now you have a sore throat. Get some med's fast, you have to be well.

I came in late for the radio show, about 45 minutes. I do not even try and go into the chat room, so not worth it. I can enjoy listening to y'all and not have to read the crap that "they" say. I honestly do not care who is screwing who, I just want to see Justice for Caylee. I think Casey likes to touch JB because he is a man and in her tiny cell there are only her radio and snacks to comfort her. Whatever her reasons, she better get use to that cell because judgement day is coming very soon,

I did not watch 48 hours because our grandson was visiting over the w/e and I honestly think it was very irresponsible of them to put anything on before the trial.

    When is the next hearing?

    April 17, 2011 | Registered CommenterPeggy222

I also do not think there was anything sexual with Casey and Jose B. I think if there was or had been Casey's letters to Robyn would have intimated something about her feelings for Jose B. Casey did write on her infatuation with the other Jose who was an intern at Baez's office for a while. From all accounts I think she looks at Baez and Mason as her father figures who are taking care of her.
Can't wait for your recap Dave!

    April 17, 2011 | Registered CommenterPatti O

Helen, I hope you don't mind that I am not Dave and I jump in here. I think Cobra likes to take on an opposite view , not that he really believes it, but it makes one stop and think. If you notice on Nancy Grace and Jane Velez Mitchell shows, the have the pro and con sides for the topic being discussed.

Since we do not know who will make up the jury, there is always a possibility that a couple can be swayed to believe that Casey is innocent. It depends on what the defense will present and how they present it. In the guilt phase of the trial, the decision has to be unanimous. If the state get her LWOP they will be satisfied. Now Judge Perry gets the final say so it is anyone's guess how this will turn out.

The biggest task will be in finding an impartial jury of 12 and 8 alternates.

    Hello Dave & Everyone,

Didn't have a chance to listen earlier, so I'm multi tasking listening to the recorded program while I watch the Canucks hopefully kick Chicago's butt. (I'm pracitisng for the trial)

    Few things...

Cobra's thoughts on the Antics of Casey Anthony would make a great title for a book. Yeah, no kidding nerves of steel, and street smarts. She displays those nerves of steel in the court room, and Richard Gabriel has his work cut out for him.

The photo's of the strange behaviour during the time Caylee was missing, especially at Fusion Night Club will show she wasn't so strange as she was moving on with her life, solo. Not that I would presume to tell Mr. Ashton how to do his prosecuting, but I sure hope he asks Tony Lazzaro how many times Casey Anthony accompanied him to Fusion during that 31 days. We've seen only two, one a blue and one a black of skanky dress nights, but I seem to recall that she acquired the Fusion Shooter Girl Manager or some such illustrious inflated job title and sent numerous texts to her acquaintances to come on down and party while conducting her own secret investigation into the disappearance of her two year old.

You are SO right Our Man at Ground Zero, she is scared of Jeff Ashton, and won't testify on her own behalf no matter how much she'd like to. I think he's the first person to ever really evoke a thought in her that she may not get away this henious crime.

Did I hear you kinda sorta mention that you have a reporting "role" in the upcoming trial Dave? Okay Vancouver just scored, yoohoo...and I'm applauding for both of you!

    April 17, 2011 | Registered CommenterRedrelaxed

i agree with Patti O, Casey seems to look to her attorneys as security and trust that in their maturity as a father image she is safe. Unfortunately she may not find that true with the jury and I wonder if she will have an immediate reaction such as the "I trusted you, and you let me die" kind of thing.

    April 17, 2011 | Registered CommenterNew Puppy

    Yeah.....go Vancouver Canucks! !

Yes, Dave, when are we going to hear that ' good' news??

    April 17, 2011 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

New Puppy, we have no idea what Baez has been filling Casey's head with. In hindsight, Baez should have listened to Terry Lenamon and copped a plea once the DP was taken off the table. Lenamon wanted to go for mental but Baez disagreed.

There have been so many attorneys come and go for the defense. They all got their 5 minutes of glory. Baez cannot quit, otherwise he would be off preparing to write a book. In reality they have been using Casey just as Kidfinders and members of her own family did and will continue to do so in the years to come.

So what's with Linda Kenny Baden? The attorney/client privilege is still in effect even after you no longer represent your client. Linda didn't mind telling 48hours that Casey was lying and there was no Nannie??

    April 17, 2011 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

Hi Dave an Snoops listened to the show couldnt understand Cobras not guilty claims...Not guilty to what ?She is faceing a multitude of offences an her defence has already admitted in open court she is guilty to most of them?Lieing to police in the course of an abduction murder enquiry is serious. She may face a lesser charge than murder one ..But theres no way she will be found not guilty in the death of her child M O O......

    April 17, 2011 | Registered Commenterecossie possie

Yes Snoops she admitted that the Nanny was a fabrication. In so doing she also proved what liars Cindy an George were with all there the Nanny is real hoopla.

    April 17, 2011 | Registered Commenterecossie possie

Cobra also said that Casey modelled this Zanny on her Fathers Girlfreind River???George didnt meet River untill after the fact an Casy was in Jail. So how could she base Zanny on River?

    April 17, 2011 | Registered Commenterecossie possie

Oh, I agree Snoopy, Casey should have taken a plea but I think Baez really thought she was telling the truth in the beginning, now he saaays she is innocent, but does he believe it? For so many attorneys to come and go there must be something more behind the defense doors that we will never know about. I did hear Linda Baden say that and wish I could hear it again because I have read a couple of comments that it was not what she really said. I did not like the way the attorney general expressed herself, too much like me, just sitting back with an opinion. Is that who she was, the blond, Bondi, I think. how did she get that job anyway? Too cute, nice blouse, lol I really thought there would be more conversation from Mason and Baez, yet, all and all I enjoyed watching the program.

    April 17, 2011 | Registered CommenterNew Puppy

Oh an I forgot The Caey is streetsmart statement HA HA HA ...Casey wouldnt last 5 minutes on the street. She conned middle class freinds easy soft targets,Casey isnt even front porch smart never mind street savvy...

    April 17, 2011 | Registered Commenterecossie possie

Ecossie, you are absolutely right. Casey described Zenaida long before River Cruz waltzed over to Geo with a big smile and purchased a T-shirt. I think Cobra's says things before his brain is engaged. I agree that Casey was the very opposite of street smart. She didn't hold up a bank at gun point and rob it, she opened a glove comparent and took out a check book. She robbed from her aged grandmother and Caylee's piggy bank. I guess that took a lot of guts.

I often wonder when Casey IM'd Jesse and said she should hit Annie up for some Xanax, who did she want it for, herself or Caylee? Why would someone want to take an anxiety medication if they planned to be with their boyfriend? Anyway, Jesse said he did not want to go that route in so many words.

    April 18, 2011 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

New Puppy, yes it was Pam Bondi, the attorney general. I was shocked that she even endorsed that program let alone participate on it.

    April 18, 2011 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

@ Ecossie, I often agree with things you say, but never more so than your last comment about Casey being street smart, my favorite part you said was, "Casey isn't even front porch smart never mind street savvy....." Hahahaha!

Being a sociopath doesn't come with a manual for street smart you have to be on the streets to learn that way of life....I think Cobra has the Anthonys confused with poor little Haleigh's people....Now the Cummings and Croslin clans...they wrote the street smart manual....their problem was/is their cockyness, they didn't stop to think that LE may have the cliff notes version.

    April 18, 2011 | Registered Commenterkatfish

    haha Snoopy great minds think alike...we just express it differently. {{HUGS}}

I have noticed some comments at MF that Pam Bondi's part in this new 48 hours was taken from the previous episode. I know that George and Cindy's appearances were lifted from the last episode...so that could be the case with Bondi too. Mind you I haven't watched it yet so just thinking outloud. CBS probably made a mint off of this, especially if most of the program was lifted from previous episodes and a few pictures they held back. You watched it, do you think it's possible their correspondent, Baez, Mason, Gabriele and the focus group were their only expenses? Heck they didn't really pay a lot for advertising....put a titilatting trailor on their website and the blogging world did the rest. Disgusting!

    April 18, 2011 | Registered Commenterkatfish

I had the following comment already to go but forgot to click on the "post" button so, although it was probably already discussed upthread, if figured i'd upload anyways; but I also wanted to comment on the 48Hour Mystery.

I thought last weeks trial was very good and many things pertinent to the case were discussed which, from what i can gather, was in favor of the state. Although some of the photos weren’t allowed due to no time/date stamp chances are they'll get those included. Discussion about the heart sticker residue on the tape will be allowed, unless the Defense offers up something that would make inadmissible but what seems to get everyone’s attention was Baez assertion that Caylee's lifeless body started in the back yard...which, until this time, wasn’t even an argued point as it was unclear where KC killed her daughter but "we" all agreed that likely it was at the house...Once again Baez has shot himself in the foot and if there was any viable defense there sure isn’t one now...IMO

Also added to the mix was towards the end of the hearing on whether or not they went in behind closed doors and the possibility of plea deal. Although my opinion has no legal basis i do believe that this meeting was not over a plea deal. I believe this issue was taken off the table once the state imposed the DP but again that is my opinion.

But back to the Defense. Admittedly they, time and time again, indicated that they would walk arm and arm with KC once the story came out at trial but leading up to the trial all they have done is secured the noose around their clients neck. It amazes me that they are so surprised how Florida law works when they work in Florida IMO the have excommunicated ( ) any possible motive and if anything exploited their client as possibly the worst human being to ever give birth to a child...again IMO.

As a Colorado resident I have limited knowledge of the surrounding counties but no matter, with the next episode of 48 Hours any hopes of a fair impartial jury just went out the window because they just tainted their pool...IMO And although the next episode exonerates their client it was not an impartial jury and there is no way those seated to give a verdict of not guilty were given all the evidence...I think morbid curiosity will have me watch it just to see how they spin it....

I decided to do 2 Post's in the same thread, hope that's okay

...Well, i did watch it and i find the faux trial was comical to say the least. The moch trail went over "evidence" which, even by state standards, wouldnt stand alone. Baez discussed many times that there was no DNA on the tape. Even the old defense attorney (Badden???) and Kathy Reichs indicates the same prolification but wouldnt any defense attorney know, as well as an anthropologist, that DNA does not remain if the object (in this case Caylee) is/was submerged for many days/weeks/months...are their cases out there that can make this a true scenario?

But one thing kills me about this: the Defense once again re-itterates that they can not get a fair trial (well they dont say that exactly but its insinuated) so why on earth would you broadcast this piece unless it was your objective to taint what remaining jury pool you have??

And again, Baez/Mason indicate that the truth will come out at trial...well I'm waiting on baited breath cause there hasnt been one truthful statement from the Anthony's since KC was put in jail-ha-ha-ha-ha to the cell block 'C'!!!! YA!!!

Did you all catch (well you probably did but i'm late to the blog party he-he) CA once again indicates that her "excited utterance" was an attempt just to get LE to respond!! And there is no evidence that there was a dead body in the car but there was evidence of garbage and the anthropoligical bug expert looks young enough that I'd have to card him for a comic book!!! I too can look at flies and I too can tell that they are usually around garbage but there was nothing in the garbage that would warrant the amount of flies seen...right????

Again they are stuck on the garbage but what they are not grasping is that nothing in the garbage was rotting!!!!!!!!

snoopysleuth...in response to your comment about why anyone would want xanax if they are going to be around their boyfriend..

Xanax is a highly addictive drug. it's almost like alcohol in a pill and it completely relaxes you. A lot of people use it for recreational purposes. Not justifying it just explaining that its a very common drug to abuse, she prob was using it for herself.
