    SHOCKING!

Today’s hearing took only 10 minutes. It was almost a love fest between Cheney Mason and prosecutors. Gone were the bitterness and confrontational attitude of the defense attorney toward Judge Perry. Yes, today was a new day. Noticeably absent from the courtroom was Jose Baez. The most shocking part of the morning came from something only a trained eye would notice… the lost look on Casey’s face…

    NO PAD! NO PEN!

Medina had a new hairdo! She wore her hair down which made her face appear to look thinner. She almost showed a bit of cleavage.

Cheney Mason's umbrella is as big as his ego!

    March 31, 2011 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

Medina wasn't there. The woman behind Casey is Elizabeth. She's a freshly minted attorney and she works for Mason's law firm.

    I missed the umbrella incident.

    March 31, 2011 | Registered CommenterDave Knechel

Dave, I need new trifocals. Elizabeth could pass for Medina's sister. I will go and fetch Mason and his Tent...

    March 31, 2011 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

She did have a lost look on her face. I wonder if it had anything to do with what Mason was talking to her about before JP came in. I can't believe she was acting that way because Baez wasn't there. I noticed that she still was doing her grooming of herself. Probably because she didn't have anything to write with or papers to go through.

Snoopy, are you talking about the lady sitting behind Casey with the short hair as being Medina? If so, I don't believe that is her.

Mason acted terribly toward Kathi Belich after the hearing. He should be ashamed of himself.

RAW VIDEO: Casey's Attorney Calls WFTV Reporter Stupid
Casey Anthony attorney J. Cheney Mason told WFTV reporter Kathi Belich she is "the stupidest reporter on the face of the Earth."

    March 31, 2011 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

By the time I settled in for a big fight it was all over. I could tell the Judge was not impressed with the e-mail letters that the two psychologist sent. I think Mason and Ashton has worked a lot of this out ahead of time.
I agree Casey was lost. I really think she might have been upset about something. I don't know if it was something Mason said to her or if something happened ahead of time. Maybe she was ready to spend the morning playing legal assistant and it was over so fast.
Glad you got home safely. The weather was terrible all over Florida today.

    March 31, 2011 | Registered CommenterNika1

No Pad! No Pen! No Baez! It was a quick hearing and the morning was stormy and Dave should have stayed home! LOL The hearing was 11 minutes some seconds long in total. All things were done decently and in order, which was nice-must be that Baez wasn't there. ❤‿❤

    March 31, 2011 | Registered CommenterSherry

I saw the video exchange between Mason and Kathy Belich. He was really rude to her and she was simply doing her job. He is anything but a Southern gentleman given the way he behaved towards Ms. Belich.

    March 31, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterYvette

I think the older Cheney Mason gets and the more his hearing goes, the more irrational he seems. Using a word like 'stupidest, or stupider" for an educated person is downright ridiculous to me.

Anyway, I just finished reading the deposition taken by the defense of Dr Vass and you can tell the difference in an experienced lawyer's way of asking questions vs a novice like Baez. I almost expected to hear him say "he's touching me" like a kid does. They were arguing with the prosecution at one point and sounded like little kids. He's certainly lost an experienced lawyer in Linda Kenny Baden. She did great questioning Vass. All Baez focussed on was the publicity and how much money Vass would get out of the machine they used.

I had just found the place to watch the hearing when it was over! lol. A few of the reports mention Mason cutting off Judge Perry while he was talking inferring it was disrespectful. It would be, but I honestly think his hearing has gotten so bad that he probably thought he's stopped speaking. Might need new batteries for the hearing aid.

I never pay much attention to Casey in the courtroom because to me it's not about her, but about Caylee, so I'm more interested in the questions and witnesses and rulings.

You guys always get the raw deal in the weather fronts. The rains come this way then seem to part right at Jacksonville. Yesterday and today we got it too but not as bad as you guys did.. just a good soaking that the yards needed.

    March 31, 2011 | Registered Commenterconniefl

After reading about the way Casey looked at the hearing yesterday I went back and watched the video of the hearing. You're right. When she first came in she just looked sleepy but after Mason said something to her she was touching her eyelashes and watching the camera almost constantly. It did look like she was upset.

    April 1, 2011 | Registered Commenterconniefl

Dave, i too noticed the change in Casey's demeanor. I really don't know what caused the change. I don't know what will be more disturbing to a jury, the pretending to be a legal assistant or the constant grooming.

    April 1, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterterri

ARG! Commenters often question, did you see the look on Casey's face when so and so said this or that, and at that point I have to go back to the video, long after the fact these days, because my stomach has no tolerance for her and her constant attention to none but herself.

Even her continuous shuffling of paper and scribbling notes is all about her and how she appears on camera, before the public in general, isn't it? Having watched her more closely, in the past, than I care to anymore, it's become obvious that most of the time she's not really reading anything. She appears to circle and jot at random, upon any page she happens to turn to or settle upon, and unless she's a speed reader extraordinaire, she "ain't" reading or comprehending much of what she casts those wicked eyes upon.

For Pete's sake, won't someone PLEASE tell her to keep her hands off herself already? I've not ever seen more self-adoration displayed in a person on trail! I'll bet she wouldn't be doing so much "me touching" if she were forced to wear jailhouse garb to these hearings! She'd probably be trying to hide under the table!

Speaking of which, why is it that SHE gets to wear street clothes to these mere hearings? (Casey dear, purple and fushia really aren't your colors) And so what if she fell and chipped a tooth so that she is no longer shackled! I wonder if that would work for anyone other than her. I wonder how many prisoners, other than her, have fallen but have never been given such special consideration. She can't possibly be the first, can she?

Forgive me my biased opinion please which is as follows, she's guilty as charged, and her mannerisms in court reek of the fact.

It will be interesting to see how she conducts herself during the trial. I fully expect to see her donned in designer suits, complete with shoulder pads and a Caylee lapel pin. Baez will make it happen. But of course, if Cindy has her way Casey will be donned in ribbons and lace looking most innocent. I'd like to see her wear a pink t-shirt that reads: BIG TROUBLE COMES IN SMALL PACKAGES, or something to that effect. But, that's not about to happen, now, is it?

    Good Morning Dave and All-
Most if not all of our Local News Stations (WFTV-WESH-FOX) all stream the Anthony Hearings. My question is, do any of the Radio Stations here in Central Florida Broadcast it
How about live podcast or streaming audio websites?
I can't watch the hearings at work, but I could listen to them on my Itouch..

    Any help/direction/suggestions ???

    Thanks
    Bill

I'll check into that for you, Bill. I'm in the courtroom right now and can't look.

    April 1, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBill

I don't think there is any way that these hearings will be done today with the way that this morning has gone. I don't blame Ashton for being upset that Baez is not living up to his stipulation that he wrote. I also don't blame JP for being cautious with his objection rulings. I would rather that he be cautious than having it be used on an appeal. I can't wait to hear from you Dave on what the atmosphere was like in the court room today.

From where I sit, I don't think so, either. It looks like Saturday and possibly Sunday, unless things speed up, but Baez isn't thru with the witness and Ashton hasn't had a chance to sink his teeth into him yet. Long day... I might exit early. Depends on how things go.

As soon as the hearing starts back up, I'm going to put the computer to sleep.

Hello,Dave reading today--cant wait for the trial to start. Poor Princess no "school supplies" to play with. My computer at my new job doesnt have any speakers so it's hard to read lips. I will have to do SOMETHING when the trial starts so I can watch during lunch break. I am sure she misses Jose---hope you and family are well Your friend always

Hello Martha. Ol' Davey Boy was tired after that loooooooong hearing and fell asleep early last night. Oh to be 25 again.

You must have a speaker output plug on your computer. You should be able to hook up earbuds, a single or double, or small, cheap speakers from Walmart or something. Also, you may have some sort of internal speaker that needs to be turned on or the volume adjusted. Does your computer make any noise when you boot up? Let me know what your options are and I'll try to help.

Thank you for your concern. All is well on my end and I hope everything is fine with you, as well. You are a wonderful friend!

Love your humor, Ecossie Possie;) !

Dave: Hope that your day went well in spite of the craziness in Court. I am hoping for your sake that you left early. Next Wednesday will be here before we know it! Am beginning to wonder how the trial can possibly start on time at this rate.
One thing is clear in my mind. Neither Baez or Mason seem to have any scruples or decency between them. My heart went out to Jeff Ashton today.
    Take care!

I stayed until the very end, Suzanna. I'm glad there's a reprieve until Wednesday. I need a break after yesterday.

I think the judge will keep this trial on schedule because he firmly believes this has gone on long enough, with nearly 2 years and 7 months to prepare since she was indicted and just over 2 years since seeking the DP. If the defense is not ready, Judge Perry will tell them it's too bad, and on with the show. It is what it is, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

    April 1, 2011 | Registered CommenterSuzanna

Ecossie~ ~you mean Belgian horses, don't ya Matey? LOL My favorite race is a speed boat with a 250 Belgian power going full throttle.

What did you think of Cindy and her fabrication softeners? Did you notice that the Princess smiled a "thank you" Mommie Dearest?

    April 1, 2011 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

What was striking to me today was when Cindy testified and Casyee mouthed ..."thank you". After Cidny testified about the fabreeze.

Did she? I couldn't see that from where I was sitting. Too many heads in my way.

    April 1, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJ Ramsey

My fabrication softeners should have been 'sheets.' Cindy scored one for the state while Baez was trying to get the chloroform thrown out. Cindy just confirmed that the stench in the trunk was the worst she had ever smelled. That speaks volumes coming from a former orthopedic nurse who has smelled decomposition.

I think Baez missed his calling. He seems to know more about scientific technology than he does about courtroom protocol. Unless one of the experts prepared the questions for Baez, I will give him credit for asking some good ones. He did bomb on the bag of trash stinking up the bay area. Ashton was very astute coming back with his question to the missing persons investigator, "Was the car in the bay area at the time you opened the door." Not verbatum but it goes to show what happens when you match a pro with an amateur.

There's just no way to explain that smell away, Snoopy. There were no dead squirrels in that trunk, and George didn't do it.

I think Ashton missed his calling, too. He'd make one heckuva fire & brimstone preacher.

    April 2, 2011 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

I think Casey responded "me too", in response to Cindy mouthing "I love you." I believe her new demeanor with her mother was instructed by her attorneys because they know she came off as a B**** the last time her family testified. She was told to be sweet this time.

That's what I've been preaching for months, LisaT. If Casey wants to help her cause, she's going to have to act like a human being with emotions. She's got to stop being so selfish.

    April 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLisaT

Thank you, Dave! That is good to hear and does ease my mind. Bless your heart for staying for the entire hearing! You are a good man indeed! I think everyone needs a break after yesterday's hearing, especially those that were actually there!
I too, think that Casey mouthed the words "Thank you" to her mother, Cindy, as she was leaving the witness stand, but it seems many people thought she said "Me, too". If it was the latter, it would be in keeping with her narcissism to respond to a motherly "I Love You" with a "Me, too", rather than a "You, too"~~~in other words, she loves herself, which is so very obvious. Still, I believe she was thanking her mother for testifying the way she wanted her to.
Dave, when you have time-no rush- what do you think about the rude words Cheney Mason had for Kathi Belich? No gentleman there that I can see. Thank you, on the other hand, for being a real gentleman and a good friend to us all! Peace.

I haven't watched the videos yet. I can't relive yesterday. It was drive me crazy. I may loot at the early ones to see what transpired between Cindy and Casey, though. As for Mason, he doesn't like the media all that much to begin with, but he obviously hates Belich. I see it more of a thing against the bias of WFTV than just her. The station usually leans toward the prosecution, so it seems, so he doesn't think he's ever going to get anything positive out of her. That's the general perception, anyway, not just from me. He doesn't have much respect for anyone on the news.

    April 2, 2011 | Registered CommenterSuzanna

I can't wait until you have rested up enough (!) to write about yesterday's hearing. I just finished watching it on my DVR, and it left me feeling especially concerned. While I completely understand Ashton's frustration, I came away feeling that what I was witnessing on his part was a kind of controlled hysteria. If that makes sense. I'm thinking he may have to borrow some of Cindy's meds to get through this trial (as may I and many others, I imagine)!

    April 2, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterPKR

Dave, do you ever worry sometimes that Baez and Ashton are ever going to come to blows over their differencies. I do, but then I think Baez way of fighting is antagonism. I think he wore Judge Perry and Ashton out Friday. Can anything be done to Baez, after the trial is finished for all his little " ambush " stunts? I wish the Judge would take away all of Casey pads and pens and make her have to pay attention to the trial, then we would see the real Casey. This hypocrisy between Cindy and Casey is sickening. They have gone the last two years with Casey not even acknowledging their prescense , but now they are all smiley, smiley and "thank you " ,sick and deceitful. I really hope you do not have to travel in weather, that you had Thursday again. Thank you for being our eyes and ears and for your terrific articles. Yet you still remain unbiased and fair,a very hard feat for me sometimes. I honor you for that. Take care, get plenty of rest its going to be a long haul, I think.

No, Margaret, I never get the impression that their anger and frustration with each other would turn physical. Everything that goes on in the courtroom is limited to that particular day. If the judge is angered enough, he'll take care of it then and there, like he almost had to yesterday. Interestingly, 100 bucks is still a decent amount of money to those guys because they sure did soften their tone when we came back from lunch. The Cindy/Casey thing should have been corrected a long time ago. I wonder if that's why Jose met with Cindy and her attorney earlier in the week. I've been saying all along that Casey's got to bend and acknowledge her family if she expects any sort of sympathy in return. The jury would think she's cold and distant, which is true. The one thing this defense didn't take into consideration is that the judge has the final say if the jury convicts her, and he's been watching her for almost a year. What does she tell him with those eyes of hers?

I do my best to remain unbiased and I've got to remain this way until the end. Thanks for recognizing it because it's not easy at times, but it is necessary in order to be balanced. Let the reader decide. Thanks. I'm resting today, but there is work to be done!

I'm not sure if this link has been posted. Good article. It's a background piece on Judge Perry, but also touches on Judge Strickland's recusal and his personal thoughts on sentencing the DP which he's never done before. We know Judge Perry has imposed the DP in the past.

Cindy and her attorney need to review her depo before trial as LDB will nail her on the stand as it relates to her testimony of "meds and memory" hence JA remark after looking at the transcript, I'm not going to get into that...

    Dave,

What a difference a day makes! The storm kept JB away & left an atypically pleasant (albeit too short IMO) day in court. The headline/pic alone were worth their weight in gold & I appreciate your continued efforts.
The following day, JB & Furton overcompensated for the DT efficiency (painful to watch & probably excruciating for you)!
If only the defendant would be made to sit without pad or pen for the rest of her days in court. I admit I thoroughly enjoyed watching her discomfort & was sad it only lasted minutes rather than hours. Oh well, a girl can hope...
Absolutely enjoy your posts & am happy to have found your blog before jury selection begins. I have lots of catching up to do in the archive. Looking forward to hearing more of you on Simon's blogtalkradio broadcasts as well :)

Hi Dave and Everyone. I will be there for radio program today. Dave , do you remember when Jesse Grund was first interviewed, he said that if anything ever happened to Caylee that Casey would lose her only foothold in the real world. He said she would have a mental breakdown, tell herself a new reality and move on from there. He said that she had to control situation and would never tell anyone what happened. Is this what the doctors are going to be discussing?. I think Jesse understood her better than her own family.
