Dave, are you bored to death yet? It is all Greek to me but I am watching and trying to pick up bits of info that sound familar. The cadaver dogs are coming up next so maybe that will be easier to understand. If they get all these Frye hearings over by Friday, it will take a miracle.

I'm serious, Snoop. Still on the dang hair after almost 2 hours...

Karen, they have finished up with that dang hair, thank God.

Wanna bet against me we'll be singing Christmas carols again, before we have a verdict?

    March 23, 2011 | Registered CommenterKaren C.

I can't believe how many times JP had to tell Dorothy Sims what the Frye hearings were for. You would think after having been told two times that she would have stopped asking what she wasn't supposed to. I was surprised that JP allowed more investigative hours so quickly. If Casey keeps writing during the trial like she has been the past hearings, I don't think that will sit very well with the jury. She is not really listening to anything that is being said. I found the hair band part of the hearing to be much more interesting than the cadaver dog stuff.

Dave, don't keep us waiting too long- after all that the natives are seriously restless... Bet you are too! I have to say, I wouldn't be going home all perky if I were on the Defense team.

    March 23, 2011 | Registered CommenterKaren C.

Dave, I know you have to be very tired and very bored..But i can't wait for your take on today's proceedings..What a mess it was...Need to hear from you about who JP had removed from the courtroom. The big talk on chat was Casey not having her blouse buttoned enough. Is this what it's going to be all week? I sure hope not and think you should play hookey..Big waste of taxpayers money.

    March 23, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterGLENDA

Man, LDB really reamed that "expert" didn't she! Not a good day for the defense. I felt bad for the guy and was just cringing while it was happening.

    March 23, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterWhistlersMother

Dave, you looked nice in court today, like the shirt. I hope you did not get as bored as I did. Why is it the Defense is always unprepared and trying to stretch things to the limit. Poor Ashton and Judge Perry looked like they were ready to start pounding the walls. Judge Perry kept it calm, and just kept explaining what a Frye hearing is. I hope Ashton's health is good because he is too hyper for his own health. Linda and Ashton are a good team. Baez and Casey still don't get it. Baez looked plum giddy at one point. Can't wait for your point of view on things . Get some rest, see you tomorrow.

Casey appears to be working for the defense team rather than being the defendant. She is helping to get Zanny off the charge of Murder One. They must be telling her to keep busy doodling etc to keep her mind off everything that is being said. She held her pen today in a way that looked like she wanted to stab the one testifying. I rewatched some of the hearing. Judge Perry looked like he was going to have a nap. He kept snuggling down farther in his chair. Dorothy Sims sure got a good scolding from him. Oh, I love watching him in action.

Have you noticed that Casey turns to Mason more often than Baez now??

Hi, Rita! This was a big, juicy hearing, wasn't it? We really are getting a mini-preview of various strategies that may be employed at trial, with the Defense tipping it's collective hand all over the place- but they can't afford to let all that stuff come in. Personally, I think we still may see a plea here- although I'm in the minority on that one I guess. At some point reality MAY set in IF Casey can be persuaded to see that on balance Reasonable Doubt is unlikely. Defense is trying to get someone in who's an expert on State Of Mind- hmmmmm. We'll just have to see with these rulings how they go...

    March 24, 2011 | Registered CommenterKaren C.

I guess I'm a lot different from some because I was riveted by yesterday's hearing on the hair banding in particular and by the dogs. I had no idea what a Frye hearing was about and to see one in action was very interesting. Nothing but what pertains to Frye can be entered. I was left wondering just what kind of representation Dorothy Sims can give if she can't take an admonishment from the Judge. Over and over and over she was called on bringing stuff in. Like Mary Jo said above, she should have gotten the hint after the second time Judge Perry sustained an objection. She even looked behind her at Baez to ask about their order that was filed, like she had no part in drafting it. odd that. What impressed me most about the hairbanding expert was that she was firm in her testimony and couldn't be led off to even a vague area by Dorothy Sims.

I absolutely LOVE Linda Drand Burdick. She keeps her cool no matter what and gets to the point effectively with little to no backtracking to correct herself. She made mincemeat of the defense's expert on cadaver dogs.

I'd say day 1 goes to the prosecution.

The guy who stood up said something like "God showed his wrath on Japan this week.. the flood". Totally not appropriate and wanting to get in his 5 minutes of fame.

    March 24, 2011 | Registered Commenterconniefl

It is only 10:00 EST and I have already had enough of Baez's attitude. IMO he is acting like a pompous ass! I can't believe he wanted to declare Forgey as a hostile witness.

    March 24, 2011 | Registered CommenterMary Jo

Baez has my nerves rattled. He is strutting around like a bloody peacock with that satisfied look on his face. I notice Mason is not there so will Dorothy Sims be questioning Dr Vass, anyone but Baez please!!

    March 24, 2011 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

I can't handle anymore of Baez today, or maybe never. LDB always does a great job of questioning the witnesses. Maybe Mason will show up after lunch, but if not that is okay. I am very interested in hearing what Dr. Vass has to say. For some reason I thought he was an older gentleman, but when I saw him on In Session he isn't. This defense team better do something with Casey during the trial other than having her pour over all those booklets with papers and all her writing because I don't think the jury is going to like that. They will think she could care less about this trial and anything that is being said.

    WORD OF THE DAY: Adipocere

also known as corpse, grave or mortuary wax, is a wax-like organic substance formed by the anaerobic bacterial hydrolysis of fat in tissue, such as body fat in corpses. In its formation, putrefaction is replaced by a permanent firm cast of fatty tissues, internal organs and the face.

    Wow!

    March 24, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterRusty B. Shackleford

After having read that scathing motion that Mason filed today about wanting a rehearing on the orders that JP denied, I can understand why he wasn't in court today. I also have to say that there is no doubt in my mind after reading that, that they think she is guilty. If they really thought she wasn't guilty I don't think they would be pushing so hard for those statements to be thrown out. They have to know that JP isn't the chief judge for no reason. He knows his case law, etc. better than any other judge that I have seen. I think they are messing with the wrong guy and I don't think they can get him recused.

    March 24, 2011 | Registered CommenterMary Jo

I predicted that Mason would have a temper tantrum after Judge Perry denied those motions and try to get the judge off the bench. LOL

Dave, lock your doors and don't let any PI's in. If Judge Perry calls you up to the bench, don't you dare go up and talk to him. Buy yourself a wig, and fake glasses with a big nose.

I'm onto their tricks, Snoopy. They won't get anything out of me!

I have to say that I am very upset with what transpired in court today. Dr Vass is obviously a very well educated, highly trained, and respectable individual. For Baez to act like he did is a travesty. Not only on a personal level, but in a professional one as well. There is a difference between fighting for your client within the constraints of the law and attacking anyone and everyone. Baez obviously was out of his league in dealing with this witness and could not grasp what the answers to his questions were. He was trying to get the witness to say what his feeble mind wanted, but since he was not getting it became flustered and almost caused a scene in the court. Pathetic. Where is the "A-HA" moment he has promised? Was this supposed to be it but couldn't force it to happen? Now he is stooping to another attempt to blame the judge for not getting what he wants. When is he going to get it? The TRUTH is what is needed. He is complaining about the interview at Universal. Would LE have even gone there if it was not for his client? Who claimed she worked there? A lie. What mother of a missing child would tell such a lie to LE. And then to follow through with actually taking them there and leading them on YES a wild goose chase before admitting.. "ok you got me". Where is your explanation for this Mr Baez? It is high time that this and many other issues regarding his clients apparent distance from truth be addressed. Until then, he is contempt. Both in the court, and in the minds of many.

Dave: I have been looking for the e-mail you were going to send to me about membership a few
days ago. No big deal- I realize that you are very busy. Just sometime when you get a little time free, I would really appreciate it.
Such a trippy day in court! I don't know how much more any of us can cope with Baez.
I am truly hoping to hear your thoughts about this Cheney Mason Motion to hear the Motion to Suppress Statements all over again and all the vile accusations against our dear Judge Perry!
Can you believe this? The only thing I thought would maybe cause a small problem when I read Judge Perry's order denying their motions: was when he wrote that the room at Universal was the same room Casey said was her office. In reality, I don't think she said that exact room was her office. But that is just an easy mistake to make and I doubt if it would change his orders. The rest of Mason's whining was just trumped up baloney, IMO.

I will make a mental note, Suzanna, and fix you up with an account.

So many things happened today in Court that astonish me I don't know where to begin.

They want Judge Perry to, what, admit prejudice against them? Is this correct? SAY WHAT???

Baez suggested the dog handlers are all liars? The dang dogs are liars too?

That Dr. Vass is just in it for the money (on a machine that was never even used in this case??? And won't be mentioned at Trial unless Jose brings it up HIMSELF???) THIS COMING FROM JOSE?

That the adipocere came from the decomposing pizza the dead squirrels got into back there. It made them explode grave wax all over the place....

"Adverse witness"- WHAT? He's teaching a law course, last I heard... WHAT??? My kid knows this! He's 12! ACK!

Two- count 'em- two expert witnesses they want now for State of Mind- but not, Ms. Finnell tells us, for Mitigation purposes! Oh, No, may it never be!

    OK, I feel better now.

    March 24, 2011 | Registered CommenterKaren C.

Oh my Karen, I couldn't have said it better!

Today it was like Baez was canoeing upstream without a paddle! Don't think he won with either the dog handlers or Dr. Vass. I loved both of them - they stuck to what they were saying and didn't get tripped up. It looks like he's going to have an uphill battle because the witnesses he has to refute are almost all professional. The everyday Joe and Martha he might be able to confuse but not a professional who has testified before in a court of law.

So Cheney and Baez think Judge Perry is biased because he didn't rule in their favor. I think what they are forgetting is that Casey was a VICTIM of child snatching to the law officers first handling the case. Looking back with a murderer to defend, her lawyers are seeing her as she is now, not as they saw her back then. I could see this coming too, like someone above said. Ever since Judge Perry did that interview on the first woman to be executed in the state (he was prosecutor) I've been waiting for them to demand his recusal. As it turned out Judge Perry didnt' even make a peep about the Anthony case in that interview. I'd say they've just lost another oar. If this gets heard at all it will be as adjunct to another hearing, but will result in the same ruling. Proving bias on the part of a sitting judge is a hard thing to do.

    March 25, 2011 | Registered Commenterconniefl

Just for a moment, and for arguments sake. Let's pretend Casey is innocent. She had nothing to do with her daughters death or disappearance. Ok. So she is sitting in court listening to someone describe her daughters remains decomposing in the trunk. That the smell was so bad it made an EXPERT jump back because it was so strong. This was her daughter! Casey had NOT ONE tear. She did not appear to be upset at all! How could ANY human being (let alone the mother) react to that kind of news about their child and not be upset in any way shape or form. That along with many other thing,s shows her guilt. IMO

    March 25, 2011 | Registered CommenterBeast

I agree with you, Beast! Never any emotion unless it is about her. Plenty of anger though.
So obviously guilty, imo. The jury will see this too.

    Mary Jo-

    DENIED! And he MEANS it!

    March 26, 2011 | Registered CommenterKaren C.

Thanks Mary Jo, I am not surprised that Judge Perry denied the motion. The Defense is running out of things to throw at the wall and more important time. The jury is going to be shaking their heads a lot at this trial, both at Casey and JB. You really can not fix stupid, stupid is as stupid does.
