    Temporary Time Out

I have many family responsibilities today. My father is in the hospital with pneumonia and my mother has doctor appointments. As soon as I fulfill my obligations, I will write about yesterday’s hearing. It was an interesting afternoon at the courthouse.

    Thank you for your patience,

    Dave

I've been reading here and there some, trying to get a handle on just what these various motions and the rulings might mean and I keep coming up with just one thing, clear as Day-
They still don't have a defense. They have NO IDEA where to find one, either. They are so stuck with Casey's Zanny statements that it almost makes my jaw hurt watching Jose clenching his. Basically the strategy (if we can dignify it as such) seems to be this: Everything "bad" has to go, pray for a few juicy rulings to go their way, and work with whatever's left over from the pile.

Snoopy, I have been trying to get on your site all day, I can usually just click on it from Dave's site, now all I get is a log in for wordpress. Wordpress won't accept my log in. What am I doing wrong? I do hope those people aren't bothering you again.

Margaret~~my blog is on lock down right now and nobody has access. I will be here lending a hand to Dave. If you have any questions, just fire away. If I don't have an answer for you, I will do my best to get it for you or someone else here willl jump right in.

Karen, if I were the defense, I would be too embarrassed to file some of these motions. The next one regarding tossing all the info LE got from Casey at Universal is totally inane. They cuffed Casey as they felt she was a flight risk. She was not under arrest so there was no reason to read her, her Miranda rights. Mason is getting too old for this craziness and Baez is just plain inept at lawyering.

Bless you Snoopy, It is so sweet you being here for Dave and us.Thank You. I was worried, that someone was trying to destroy your site again. Is Dave taking care of himslf? I missed seeing him in court today. I have a question, on her first day in court I have read she was declared indigent, so how did she get money to retain Baez on the second day? I just keep waiting for something to come up And this trial postponed. I don' trust Mason or Baez. Is Baez married? I can't see a ring on his hand. Thanks again for your thoughtfulness.

    January 5, 2011 | Registered Commentermargaret

Margaret~~Geraldo made a remark one time that Baez' wife was a knockout, as far as looks went. Baez was only 17 when he married the first time and I am not sure how long that lasted. I know he was negligent in making child support payments. His daughter was working in Baez' law firm as a PR person. I don't know if she is still with the firm.

When Casey was first arrested, she filled out a form to be declared indigent. Almost immediately after that she hired Baez on as her attorney. There are a few stories floating around out there as to how she really hooked up with him. I believe Casey lied to Baez and told him she had a bit of money to retain him. IIRC, it was around $5500...George mentioned that fact to the FBI. We all know that it didn't take long for the big buck to start rolling in from ABC.

Thanks Snoopy I just hope all goes well with this case, No surprises!!! Don't you just love prosecutions confidence in their answers to Baez motions. Little Caylee will get her justice. It has been a long day so I am calling it a day. Good Night all. Stay well.

Well, I've been all over the net and can't find a video clip of the hearing that took place today. Has any one else seen it? Perhaps it will show up in the morning. Mary Jo, I just want to thank you for being who you are doing what you do not only for Dave, but for all of us. I thought a lot about you today, and your friendship. Thank you. Having said that, I'm off to bed. Good night everyone.

Here is the Affidavit of Attorney's Fees and as compiled by Jeff Ashton and amount that Baez had to pay for being sanctioned.

    Affidavit of Attorney's Fees

    January 6, 2011 | Registered CommenterSnoopySleuth

Wow. How hard was that for Ashton to do? He turned out the Affidavit in, what, under24 hours? If Baez would have been doing just that from the start: filing, submitting, responding and reporting as each matter came up, the trial would be old news by now. This is the most drawn out, drought-ridden case I've ever seen. Like Ashton said, nothing new since May at least! Seriously!!

I just watched Bill Shaeffer's analysis of the sanctions on WFTV website. I like him! He says the sanctions show Baez's immaturity and/or inexperience and to be sanctioned like that would be humilitating because not turning over those reports as requested could result in them not being allowed at trial and you want to do what you can for your client's defense. He mentioned that he thought Casey should be requesting that Mason participate more and try to keep Baez reined in.

I agree. The further along we go the more Baez's inexperience shows, not to mention his immaturity. It might also be the reason we see her acting so friendly to Mason and cooler to Baez. She's not dumb and it's hard to believe she can't see his inexperience. He comes to trial with his color coded charts but not the motions he needs in a timely manner.

Frankly I was surprised when Cheney Mason joined the team and Baez kept lead attorney status. Yes, he was the first on the case and is the most familiar with it, but I would think he'd bow to more experience and sit back as second chair and learn from someone more experienced.

Dave, I have been looking everywhere for your site for the last couple of days and have finally found it. I love to read your opinions and really missed you. I hope everyone in your family will be back to normal soon, and I will be praying, like everyone else here, for them. Am looking forward to reading your post on the hearing the other day.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- If Casey Anthony's murder trial moves into a penalty phase, the defense's witness list will be made public, Judge Belvin Perry said on Friday.

The defense had filed a motion asking that the penalty phase witness list be sealed.

"We're concerned that any potential penalty phase witnesses who know that they are going to be listed or once they have been listed will be reluctant to come forward," Anthony defense attorney Ann Finnell said at a December hearing on the motion.

Perry said in an order that Anthony's defense did not adequately prove a reason for why the list needed to be kept private.

Snoopy, do you think Mason was being funny or maybe making a little threat in court, when Judge Perry was admonishing them about what deadlines meant, and Mason said he did not want to have this trial but once. Judge Perry then gave him, "I got you" look and went on about lawyers being sued on behalf of JAC. I guess I have watched too much TV, I thought Lawyers conferred with one another, but Mason acts like he doesn't know what Baez is doing and vice versa. When the actual trial starts do you think Lee will show up to support Casey since he believes everything she tells him? Thank you Snoops.

    January 7, 2011 | Registered Commentermargaret

Margaret~~I think Mason was being sarcastic when he mentioned about trying the case only the once. Judge Perry said that, if need be, they will try it twice. Mason reminds me of a spoiled child when he doesn't get his own way. His gift of gab is not working for him like it used to. Judge Perry was giving Mason and Baez a message, indirectly, when he said that lawyers were being sued on behalf of JAC. I also noticed Baez was not smiling when Judge Perry said that.

I expect Lee Anthony will only be at the trial long enough to testify. I don't think he will be hanging around to support Casey. I wonder how many family members will be supporting justice for Caylee.

Margaret, watch this video of Bill Sheaffer and you will get some of the answers you are looking for. It is about 8 minutes in duration and worth every minute.

Snoopy , Have you read the article on the Orlando Sentinel sight. Baez can't blame this on bloggers. WOW!!!!! I would leave town, I think. He is not going to be happy with anyone. Can Casey read the paper in jail?
